No kids. Really?????

My husband, and I are older parents to an eight year old. My husband is a disabled veteran, and I am in cosmetology. We want to move to the villages. I understand, that the general rule, is, that no one under 19 is allowed to live there, however I've also heard of a few villages, where kids are allowed to live. It has been difficult getting any about this, so any, would be appreciated. Thank you. Aiso, where near the villages id place to live? a gooj

There is a 'family section' within TV but I don't know the name of that particular village. It is over by Target.

Hi. You are correct that The Villages is predominantly a 55+ community and there is an age restriction for any children under 19. There are also a couple "family neighborhoods" where younger children can live. One is Bison Valley, and if you go in the Villages website, click on Homes, then on Preowned homes (rather than New) then search for the Village of Bison Valley, you will see one home currently for sale. There are other villages that are family neighborhoods, I just don't remember which ones. You might consider contacting the Villages Sales office and they can give you the names of all family neighborhoods and any other restrictions that may apply. They are generally very helpful and not pushy. As far as other towns close to the Villages, the town names closest are Wildwood, Lady Lake, Fruitland Park, and a few others. There are better sections and not so nice sections of each, like any town. From these towns you can access some of the Villages lifestyle, but there is a lot not available to you unless you are a Villages resident. Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

No one under the age of 19 can live The Villages. Children can visit for a total of 30 days every year. There is a village next to TV, Parkwoods (I think), that was built for employees of TV and family of TV residents. It has golf cart access to TV but no access to any of the amenities of TV. There are several small towns surrounding TV where you could live. However, again, no access to the amenities of TV.

I know of one couple that own property in TV and have a younger child (10, if I remember correctly). They also rent an apartment near TV. They take turns staying with the child, who visits them in TV on occasion, but the child's primary home is the apartment.

If you do move to and have a parent or grandparent that lives in TV, you could get you a special guest pass that would give you year-round access. However, your parent or grandparent would have to accompany you to anything you use in TV.

So far as I know, there isn't a retirement community that allows residents under the age of 18. Kind of defeats the concept of a retirement community, sorry.

The information in the above posts is correct. You can live in one of the "family" villages built by the developer for employees and their families. HOWEVER, you will not have access to The Villages pools, free executive golf or any of the recreation centers. Your children can attend Thre Villages Charter School if you or your husband is employed by The Villages.

Just to clarify. Most of us love children, but we chose to move to an over 55 adult community where children are not allowed to live.

I appreciate your husbands service and I am sure you would both love it but there are no exceptions to the children living in the villages restriction.

When your eight year old becomes 19 then he can live with you here.

donna - i believe there are two developments for employees of the villages:
spring arbor - off of rt 466
oak meadows - off rolling acres rd behind target
i think both communities are in the town of lady lake if you wish to search them out on the internet.

and i believe that these villages are open to residence by anyone - villages employees or not:
bison valley
buffalo ridge
parkwoods

am sure someone will be along to correct me if i have erred!

Just wanted to make sure the poster knew you could still get 'inside the ropes' with a street legal. Plus they look like very nice homes at Lakeside!

As I sit reading TOTV and this thread, I can hear cheers and laughter from a football game at the middle school that is only a few blocks from our house. It brings back lots of memories. This is in Houston, not TV. As thrilled as I am that we plan to make TV our home soon, I do not think it would have been a good choice when our son was growing up. His schedule and friends dictated almost everything we did. As excited as I am to be retiring and moving to TV, I do not think it can compare to the great times we had with him. I do hope to be proven wrong on that point.

I could start a new thread on "What happened to my sweet little boy after I sent him to college?" But I won't go there. After being on his own now for 6 years, he's almost as sweet as he was before - almost! We keep telling him how much he's going to enjoy visiting us when we get moved, but I don't think he believes it yet.
