Insulate refrigerator in the garage??
Has anybody put any kind of insulation around their refrigerator in the garage?
I am getting ready to measure ours and think there are two (at least) options. One; fiberglass insulation blanket on top, both sides and part way down the back. Second: ditto using styrofoam (1- 2" thick??). What have you done or suggest? btk |
we just put a reg one in our garage, no insulate, just plugged it in.

Is it really worth the effort? |

One caution...if you do add insulation, you may have a problem with condensation on the covered surface of the refrigerator, particularly on the freezer side. This is because that surface will be cooler than it normally is. The insulation (even foam) can then absorb the moisture and become useless. It may be possible to seal against the moisture, but it will be difficult. Even without the added insulation, refrigerators and freezers in the garage tend to get wet under some conditions.

I appreciate all the comments. We have had a refrigerator in garages forever (it seems) and one in the garage here for the last 8 years.
I agree with all who said so....no problems. However, IF, there is an opportunity to make it more efficient, run less, cost less, why not? It is not a page one project but one that is on the list. btk |
I'll bet if you google it, you might find an answer re: this question.
