Mowing Zoysia
I am asking if anyone knows the proper height to mow zoysia here in the Villages. My mowing company lowers the blade this time of the year and the lawn immediately browns up for several days. He says it promotes growth. He says he usually cuts at 3" but lower in the winter. My lawn treatment guy (fertilizer, etc) says it should be no lower than 3 1/2". Web sites all say 1-2" which would destroy my lawn for sure. There is a site recommended by someone on here recently (Sod Service?) which said to raise the blade this time of year to promote deeper root growth in the winter months, but my mowing guy says that is crazy. I know there are many varieties of zoysia but I'm told that all homes in The Villages get the sod from the same farm. Can someone help direct me to an expert somewhere on grass maintenance for zoysia used in TV?

Don't know if they are experts on Zoysia but my lawn company (PTL) does an excellent job on my yard. When we first moved in we had a different company and the grass looked bad. Then we switched all of our yard services to PTL and the grass has gotten thicker and greener than ever.

Go to the sheriffs building on 466 near Morse and in it is a county agricultural extension office. They have the right answers. You can even take leaves in with spots on them and they can tell you how to treat them. On Tuesdays at Truman Rec center on Canal near 466a they have the extension guys come to answer questions of this sort.
