466A Speed Limit Change - Beware
There is now a short stretch of road between Wildwood and The Villages, approximately 368 feet long directly in front of the new County Seat building, that has recently been reduced from 45 mph to 25 mph. The change is very poorly announced, two signs a short distance apart, no lights or flashers of any kind. The signs are easily missed.
A ticket in this area is $256.00. Please pass this information along, if you wouldn't mind. Either through word of mouth or better signage. Thank you for your time and drive carefully! |

Incorrect information.

So if you see no posted speed signs, in "The Villages" within Sumter County, it's 20mph folks. |

I drove west today on 466A from Canal St to Powell Rd. I looked at every sign I passed and never saw anything except 45mph signs on 466A. Past the intersection of Powell I could see a sign reducing down to 35 as you enter the residential area of Wildwood. But nothing on 466A. I also closedly watched on Powell and that speed limit was 35mph all the way to 44.
Are we sure this is not another Villages Urban Legend? Has anyone actually seen these signs that reduce the speed limit? I was looking and did not see them. |

I would definately take that one to court. If they're doing that with a posted 35 coming out of wildwood and 45 at the the villages then there is definately some confusion in there sign posting or the officers interpretation of. A judge may vary well agree and toss the ticket and issue you a warning. In reality I think the officer should have issued a warning as well, I drive through there regularly but haven't been since this post began. I'm just wondering also if its a zealous cop trying to make his quota. Definately challenge it. Or worse case get a traffic lawyer and let them do it in your stead. I had to fight one once and rather paid $100 to a lawyer who got it thrown out than pay them 256 for something I know I didnt do wrong and thats why I fought it.

I drive that area frequently. I agree with M&G comments.
Not knowing at what speed the OP was cited, I'd contest a ticket for any speed of 45 mph and under. If cited, however, at 46 mph or higher.... |
The below notice was in our neighborhood community email update. It was posted September 30. This does not seem like something you would see in TV.
WATCH YOUR SPEED ON 466A! There is now a short stretch of road between Wildwood and The Villages, approximately 368 feet long, directly in front of the new County Seat building, which has recently been reduced from 45 mph to 20 mph. The sign says Speed Limit 20, with The Villages under it. It looks just like the ones that announce speed limits on our side streets within The Villages, without the “unless posted” part. Police have been seen giving out tickets with a cost of $256.00. |
