French Drains
 

I am looking for recommendations for someone to install a french drain on the side of my house. This area gets washed out from the tremendous amounts of rain that is emitted from the downspouts of my house and my neighbors. The downspouts on both houses are almost side by side. The water has actually created a 6 inch or more deep hole next to my neighbors house.

My avatar is a picture of heart shaped cookies frosted to look like bikini tops and bottoms.

Try putting a plastic extender on the downspout and direct it to a concrete pad that takes the force of the falling water. secondarily, dig a dry well, fill it with fairly large stone and direct the effluent into it. Either will work and is considerably cheaper than installing french drains (assuming the only heavy runoff is via downspouts.)

I'll check with my neighbor. We only have about 15 feet between our houses. The neighbor would have to agree to have any kind of solution to the problem. The runoff is worse from their house and it is creating a hole beside their house. The water is also tunneling under the curbing around their garden and sending pure sand out on the grassy area. Needless to say not much grass is left. May just have to put a stone walk way to the back yard.

Had Rupert Cross do French drain. Didn't make the run long enough to corral pooling water in a down pour. Downspouts connected correctly, poor job replacing sod, did not bring in enough leaving a bare area. Called 3 times he came out and stated he wasn't to sod a certain area, recanted and said he would return at the end of the week. I will have no further conversations with him. For sod replacement I rate him a 6 out of 10.

If it"s a new home should be covered under warranty
