Did you have to (or want to) change your loyalties?
Just finished watching our Detroit Tigers clench the AL Central and it made me think...do you find that your loyalties change? Will I be cheering for Tampa Bay? I can't imagine giving up on our Tigers/Pistons/Lions/RedWings...even tho they haven't always lived up to our hopes (but the Lions did give Jay Leno plenty for his monologues). I know that hockey isn't huge in Florida..but coming down from Hockeytown I'm sure I'll be bringing my Wings fever with me. As for Michigan/Ohio State...Gracie, WE will call it a draw :)...but Steve says that he'll forgive you for the error of your ways:1rotfl:..(hey, I'm just the messenger)

Quite frankly, been down here 7 years and it just doesn't matter. I have ALWAYS been a NY Yankees fan and ALWAYS will be.
No disrespect to any Florida teams or wherever I may live. I think I was a NYY fan even when I was in the womb. Worst case - My early years were in Brooklyn ! Yankees, Giants and only got into hockey in 1972 when the Islanders were formed. |
I'll always be a Packer Backer! And love my Brewers....even though they're not doing so well this year.

Red Sox,Bruins,Patriots & Celtics.Doesn't matter where I live.I was brought up watching these teams. It's in my blood!

We moved around a lot-- Milwaukee to Reno to Scottsdale to Rohnert Park (Santa Rosa, CA area) to Palm Harbor to the Villages. And so did I-- Provo, UT; Denver, CO; Belmont, CA; Minneapolis, MN; and Itasca, IL. Working my way through school with 4 degrees at 5 schools.
So, I have trouble feeling stong loyalties to sports teams. Most of my family and friends were Da Bears/Cubs/Bulls/Blackhawk fans. Had to root for these teams when surrounded by dozens of family members in Itasca (near Medinah CC). |
I love me some Florida, and I love me some Cincinnati Reds and nothing about Florida change my loyalty to the Reds. National League Central Division Champs. Hope to see the Tigers in Cincinnati real soon! :-)

You can take the boy out of New York but you can't take the New York out of the boy.
Yankees, Giants, Knicks and Rangers forever. |

I would have liked to play for John Madden in football and laugh, than play for a difficult coach for more money. If you can't live on 10 million a year, what makes a ball player think he can live on 15million? For some, it's all about the money. It's a job to them. So much for loyalty. |
We belong to the Cleveland Browns Backers Club and the Ohio State
Amumni Club. Watch the games with both groups. Have been here for 7 years and really haven't developed any loyalities to the teams down here. |
Strangely, I did change my loyalties when I moved here. I loved my fish (aka the Dolphins). I actually shed a tear when they lost the playoffs to the Pats in the blizzard game. However, between the strikes and Johnson becoming coach, I was not as ardent of a fan as I had been in the past. Now, my team is the SF 49ers (but I still call 'em the Whiners).
Baseball has not changed -- KC Royals, Oakland As, NY Yankees. San Jose Sharks for hockey so long as I don't have to watch it, just cheer when I hear they win and whimper when I lose. The nice thing about moving around a lot is you get to pick your teams for whatever reason you like. I loved the fish cause of Shula and the fact they were the least-penalized team. The Royals because of Quisenberry, the fact they started the first inner-city league for kids and the willingness to give lifetime contracts so that player loyalty did exist. |

C'mon - be reasonable! It's tough living on $10,000,000.00 - $15,000,000.00
per year !!!! |
With the new MLB schedule there will be some interleague play every day. If the Reds get to Tampa Bay, I'm there. Miami, now that's a fur piece, but who knows.:pepper2:
