Warning for drivers on CR-466A ...
I just received the following email and am taking it at its word:
There is now a short stretch of road between Wildwood and The Villages, approximately 368 feet long directly in front of the new County Seat building, that has recently been reduced from 45 mph to 25 mph. The change is very poorly announced, two signs a short distance apart, no lights or flashers of any kind. The signs are easily missed. A ticket in this area is $256.00. Please pass this information along, if you wouldn't mind. Either through word of mouth or better signage. Thank you for your time and drive carefully! |
It seems to be making the rounds, this particular email. We've discussed it in another thread and the conclusion is that this situation happened a few years ago while there was road construction going on. At this point, that area is posted for 45mph. Drive it and you'll see for yourself.

Oh, and by the way, I was doing 45 on 466A and people were overtaking me at much more than 45mph |
A friend witnessed ticketing on Powell northbound, not on 466a

When I passed this site today a Sumter Co policeman was standing in front of the sign and appeared to be looking for a way to remove it. This is clearly a notice and not a speed regulating sign. I suspect that it might be removed because of all of the confusion about it's purpose.

I forwarded this warning to a friend who has been here even longer than I have. He replied that this was, indeed, an issue, but some three years ago, when 466-A and the Sumter County facility were under construction!
I haven't traveled 466-A westerly in years, so cannot speak with personal observation! SWR :beer3: |
