house fire

We were on the 3rd hole of Bogart at around 5:30 when we saw black smoke in the distance. Minutes later we hard sirens. Because of the weather, we cut our game short and went to see what was happening. A home in Liberty Park on Holly Hill behind the pool was totally destroyed by fire. Thankfully, the residents weren't there. We were told they hadn't come back yet for the season. The home next door lost it's siding. The one plus...no injuries. Keep them in your prayers.

Wow - so sorry to hear. Second fire since we arrived in June. Anyone know what happened???

philnpat 10-04-2012 07:00 PM

It appears that the garage took the worst of it.

Fire

How terrible....Glad no one was home and no one got hurt...I forget what time the storm started...do you think it was struck by lightning?

I am so sorry to hear this terrible news, but so grateful no one was injured. True, 2 fires recently. I will keep the owners in my prayers...

Makes me think it might be overheated golf cart batteries like the previous one. Just a wild guess.

How do the golf cart batteries get overheated? Is this just with electric carts? Is this common?

KathieI 10-05-2012 08:30 AM

I thought I was crazy... (correction, I know I'm crazy) but I smelled smoke all day yesterday and didn't hear anything about a fire. So sad for those people and so glad no one was hurt. :MOJE_whot:

Any battery under charge that R not maintained can have issues, cables need to be tight and water levels correct.

But we should not jump to such conclusions or a wild guess.

Could have been many things

As to last fire.....in Hadley it was not reported as golf cart fire according to this post

He said the fire appeared to have originated in an area of the garage where the homeowner kept his radio controlled airplanes. He specifically said that the homeowner's golf cart was not thought to be the cause of the fire.

Usually the smoke smell comes from forest fires in the Ocala National Forest.

fire

took a ride by early this AM. Looks like the back of the garage went up thru the attic opening and took out the roof. house is fed by gas, one report said HO weren't down yet so doubt was a battery I'd bet gas problem. JMO
Main thing is no injuries.

This makes four fires in fairly recent time that I remember starting in the Villager's garage. My only thought is that it's hot in there---no pun intended but a lot heat can make "things" happen that ordinarily wouldn't happen.
