I don't know about any other brand of smart phone, but my Evo runs out of battery very quickly. If I'm riding in the car and just want to check email, it's fine. But for browsing, reading kindle, etc., when I have a wait and can't plug in, the ipad with its long battery life wins hands down over a smart phone. And so much easier than a laptop to transport from living room to front porch to lanai for Internet browsing at home. My first one was not 3G, and I regretted it. Got an AT&T 3G because we travel a lot overseas, and the AT&T one will accept data sim cards from other countries. I gave the first one to my husband, who thought he probably wouldn't use it much... Well, he was hooked in a day, much to my dil's dismay as she was next in line for it.

I have both...and I use my ipad much more than the phone, though when out and I need to check on something, that little iphone comes in very handy. Use it to snap pics and send along to others....send email when out, text if necessary. At home, I have a laptop and my ipad....use the pad more than the laptop, it's just easy to carry around. Only have wifi on my pad at home so my phone is used when out and about. Changing to ipad with 3G would change my data plan....got unlimited right now.
Before I had my ipad, that phone was another appendage... ;) Now, at home, I'm thinking of getting a holster for the ipad..... ;) |

If all you intend to do is surf - an iPad is an expensive way to go. There are less expensive tablets out there that are just as good for surfing. I have an iPad and the iPhone 5. The smart phone is fantastic. I love it and take it everywhere. My only complaint with iPhone is the short battery life. I find I need to charge it 2 or 3 times a day. The iPad is kept home and I use it only there. I find it awkward to take outside, or to even stuff into my briefcase. The iPhone is perfect for taking outside. And, yes, you still need the old desktop (or laptop). While the iPad is very useful, it does not replace the computer - no USB port for one thing. |
ipad
Some one last week recommended a company handling use ipads.

I have an iPhone for 4 years and just gave in and bought the iPad 2. I wasn't going to watch movies so I didn't need a better screen and the iPhone 5 is good for photos so why pay the extra for the iPad 3?
I use the iPad to do more Internet surfing at night. Reading articles and news. The iPhone is great because its always on my hip. But the bigger screen is better for reading email and use at home. |
iPhone 5 & iPad 3. Use both all the time. Dust off the Mac once a week whether it needs it or not. Just can't get any better than that. :024:

I have the iPhone and the iPad, with 3G. Wouldn't give up either one for all the same reasons already mentioned! Love them both. They are mostly redundant, but not completely, with the best feature of the iPhone is it goes in my pocket.
