Watch You Checks!
To all my Village friends:
We were at Applebee's last night and the waitress offered two for the price of one drinks. Two couples ordered. When the bill came, we were shocked! One had a mixed drink - $9.00 and one had a beer - $4.00. How is that 2 for the price of 1??? So we asked for the manager. We asked for her to show us on the menu where this ONE mixed drink was $9 and where this ONE beer was $4. She could not. It was not written anywhere. So basically, YOU'RE PAYING FOR BOTH DRINKS! And just another way to scam Villagers! BUYERS BEWARE!!! If they say 2 for the price of 1 anywhere... Ask them to show you how much the 1 would cost. Needless to say I was ****ed! And so was my BFF's husband. BTW... I wasn't drinking so I have no dog in this fight, but I hate anyplace that tries to scam Villagers. The manager did finally cut the prices in half -- but we won't be going back again! Watch your bills my friends!!! grrrrrr..... |
Usually to me two for the price is buy one and get one of the same drink for the person ordering. It never meant one for me and one for my wife.
The other choice is a double of the same drink for that one person. Although $9 seems a little high. Z |
I agree wi Z on all points.
Generally speaking, 2 for 1 drink deals typically carry different expectations than do 2 for 1 meal deals. In such situations, I never assume one drink each but I always assume one meal each. And my tip is based on full cost of both. |
applebees
You know Chels, I agree with you....$9 is alot of money for one drink, even if you are getting a free one. I defintely would contact Applebee's
thru their website... Not only are their prices out of whack, their tables and chairs were falling apart. There is no maintenance or pride to keep that place up to date. Remember the last time we were there, and we waited for about 15 minutes to place an order and the waiter said"oh you are still here, if I had to wait I would have left"....great atitudes.....oh well, looking for another establishment to have fun at..... |

The restaurant needs to make as much money as they can so they can afford to buy new tables and chairs. :loco:

I notice that many restaurants put a price on the menu of everything - except drinks.
$9.00 isn't that shocking nor is $4.00 for a beer. Not saying I like those prices but I've paid a lot more. If you order something without the knowing the price you have really agreed that you will pay whatever is the normal charge for that item. Didn't someone else just get the high priced pedicure? My wife likes lobster but when the menu says market price we always ask, what is today's market price. We don't see the price in ink but we know what it is before we order. |
I actually have heard this before about Applebee's "2 for 1" drink special. One of my buddies who used to post frequently on TOTV (before the political forum went away) told me he had two bar brand bourbons at Applebees and was charged $12 as their "2 for 1 special". Definitely not a "Special", if you ask me.
I guess the best thing to do when you are not sure of the price is to ask the waitress BEFORE you order. Of course, this always does not work either. A very short time ago, I was waiting on a phone call to pick someone up at the Villages Hospital in the afternoon. I waited at Katie Belle's bar. I asked the barmaid how much a Grey Goose on the rocks was. She said, "around $6." I ordered it. She brought the drink and the tab and said, "It came to $8.99." Naturally, with that much of a difference in her estimate, I tipped her appropriately. |
I went to an Applebee's (not this one) once about 10 years ago. Never again. The food was inedible and the staff was rude.

Two for One is different than half price in a bar. Two drinks for the price of one is more profitable than one drink at half price. However, I know guys who lunch every week at the same time and same place that are treated with more latitude: one guy orders a beer and one guy orders well bourbon and they pay for one drink total (but usually their bill comes to about $40 anyway):beer3:

Applebee's drinks are just expensive. On a whim one night, I ordered a Bahama mama but for some reason asked the price (I usually don't). The server told me $9.50. I opted for water and to always ask the price in the future. Just as an aside, the food was just awful. I had chicken alfredo...the pieces of chicken were miniscule and hard as rocks. Sent it back. Never again!
