Slider Door Leaves Black Residue in Track
Do all the sliders leave what looks similar to black brake dust in the tracks?
It gets all over and discolors the patio. Any suggestions how to alleviate this? |

that's oxidation, clean it off with wd-40, coat with silicone.

At one time graphite was used for smooth operation in those. Don't know if that's still the case.

If your door is more than a couple of years old, you may need to replace the rollers. Easy to do if you can lift the door off the track and remove it.

Thanks.
Sliders are 3 months old and yes graphite is the word I was looking for. It makes a mess. |
For years we have lubed ours by rubbing an old candle over the tracks. It stays put and works good.

Had the same problem, and reported it at the one year inspection. The door contractor sent a serviceman who cleaned the bottom track and replaced the metal rollers with nylon. Problem solved.

Another thought on the warranty....
My home was built in '09, so no home warranty. However, I called the warranty department about my sliders, in which I'm certain the rollers need replacing. The Home Warranty Dept. gave me the name and phone number of the installer for my home. I called and they informed me that my doors were still under the manufacturers warranty and they would come and repair and/or replace the doors free of charge. Point is, don't forget manufacturers warranty... Cheers |
Told has 5 year warranty.
