Garage floor painting
Ok this may be a really silly question, but why does everyone paint the garage floor or epoxy it? Why is it necessary???

Its not necessary at all- just makes it look nicer. Remember that you won't be getting the snow & salt from up north or grass from your lawnmower (most of us don't have one!), so you can keep your garage floor looking nicer. Its not expensive at all if you do it yourself as I did- its not difficult.

It's like a "coach bag" for the guys
I think same on driveways:ohdear: |
It looks better, but it is a whole lot easier to keep clean than plain old concrete.

As aussiemom said, it looks better and makes it much easier to clean.
While the concrete floor may look new and nice now, years from now it may not. Even down here concrete can spall, crack, and become difficult to keep clean. A nicely painted concrete floor looks nicer and sweeps much easier. When one considers what we sometimes spend on upgrades, this one is relatively inexpensive for the nice look you get. With no basements, some folks spend more time in their garage. For some, it even becomes a "Man Cave". Some have their washer and dryer out there. Personally, I think it looks so much better, (if done right), and puts a smile on my face whenever I sweep mine. Just be careful to use the correct paint, as a cheap or improper paint can "lift off" from hot tires, etc. It is not something you want to skimp on, as it is a big job sometimes to move everything to do it, etc......you want to do it right the first time. I would shy away from most latex types and use an epoxy type. Also, protecting the concrete from golf cart battery acid is important....but that itself could be a whole different thread. Hope that helps......Respectfully, Frank |

Thanks for the replies!

I agree that it's mostly aesthetic, but it also keeps down the concrete dust that form where ever there is concrete.

I was out around some of the new construction areas last week. Came across Tim Miller at one of his jobs. He had done a garage floor for a couple. Really great job,, made me want to have him help me at my house. Maybe check him. Tim Miller Home Serices.

we have a full service business. Most of the times you dont need an epoxy floor and quite honestly they have a lifespan. the best thing to do is to stain the floor. very inexpensive and a great look and finish. if interested please call Eric at 352-239-3289

ok for a 20x20 what do you get $$$$
|
Tim Miller is excellent. He did our garage floor and installed the attic stairs. Re the floor, it is easy to clean, is not slippery when whet and does not stain. Would use Tim again in a minute, no desire to do it ourselves (we are retired from that stuff).

Your Corvette deserves a nice floor to sit on!

We got our garage floor done right after settlement and before anything was moved in to the house. It is epoxied and looks like and gleams just like a terrazzo floor. Thank you Woody and company from Superior Concrete Design. Not a "must have" but a "very nice to have".
