Slashed Tires

We purchased and had our golf card delivered 10 months ago and we only have less than 350 miles on it. A few days ago I went to drive it and found out it had a flat tire.

We contacted Carts & Clubs and they just came to check out the problem. What they found is that the front right tire has been slashed and that was the cause of the flat. The mechanic replaced the tire for us at no charge. He also noticed that the front left tire looked like there was an attempt to slash that one too, but it wasn't damaged enough to cause a flat.

Having used our golf cart so little, this sounded pretty unlikely this would have happened, but yet it did. The only places we have been to since purchasing it is to and from Colony Plaza, Havana, Mallory and Bonifay so far and we haven't used it more because I frequently need to bring my mobility scooter with us where more than a very short distance walk would be required.

My only real question is, has anyone heard of other incidents where golf cart tires have been slashed? Of course, any other comments are welcome!

I don't mean this as political but by chance do you have political stickers on your cart?

That's a fair question and the answer is no, nor will I have a sign in my window at home. I've tried hard to stay away from politics here in TV, and I especially try to avoid them here on TOTV now a days because of a down-right mean and nasty personal and political attack on me on a non-political post I made. If you want to know any more about that, you'll have to PM me and ask! I can't discuss it any further here.

The remoteness is why we're puzzled. I don't think it's anyone here on TOTV nor personal in any way.

Although unlikely, the only way the slashing could be personal is if my wife was seen and recognized leaving the cart while she was out. Even rares is if I were seen leaving the cart someplace. Our cart is always kept inside our garage!

The only logical theory I have come up with is that the tires were slashed even before we purchased it new last December, and it took time for the slashes to open enough for air to start leaking out. i.e. When the tires were shipped and uncrated prior to being assigned to the cart being assembled. That's a long shot, but I haven't come up with any other theories yet!

Well, i don't know anything about the way new golf cars are assembled prior to your receiving them, but our neighbors found a large slash along the entire length of the hardtop canopy of their new cart.

It was determined that the box containing the top was opened with a razor knife (at the dealership) and the top was slashed in the process. Seems theirs wasn't the only one damaged. The employee was re-educated as to how to open the boxes, the dealer was apologetic and my neighbors received a new canopy without charge.

Yeah this was my first thought. Hence why I don't put stickers on my car...too many idiots out there and politics don't go together. Not saying this was behind it but first thought.

I am so sorry this happened to you.

Maybe a random act of violence by someone who had nothing better to do.
I really don't have an answer.

The first and last time I had a political sticker on my car, the back window was smashed and broken. Since there was no political stickers, I don't know.

keep in mind with hundreds of commercial trucks flying around The Villages, it is very possible that you ran over some object that caused the slash in the tire. These trucks drop material, nails, screws etc. all the time.

Thanks, but the mechanic ruled that out. I definitely looked like a blade type slash! i.e box cutter

I know in my heart that those slashes weren't personal. You are a great person and anyone that knows you as we do just love you and your dear wife to pieces.

It had to be some sort of accident and we are sorry it happened.

That which Gracie said, but too, it's interesting that the dealer replaced them for free, no hesitation. Could be good customer service, or it could be that they have had this happen some, either on their lot or through the actions of an uneducated employee, and they just don't want to tell you that.

If someone slashed your tire, it seems like it would have been flat then and there. Maybe I missing something in your description but I don't see how someone could slash your tire and you were able to drive it and not notice the tire was slashed.

I don't know if you missed something, but I did touch on the possible how of it in subsequent posts.

At this point though, I'm all but convinced that the slashes occurred in the unpacking of the tires at the dealership where they didn't realize it occurred, and that the slashes were not all the way through at the time, but over time worked themselves open enough to start leaking air. Also where someone else suggested it might be a coverup by the dealer, I say that I don't think for a second that their was a coverup of any kind.

I believe you are right in your conclusion of what has happened. Who on earth would be walking around in TV slashing golf cart tires? And Carts and Clubs is highly respected and I also don't believe would cover up something like this.
