I went to Yahoo! and then clicked on "finance". That's where I saw a blog with the following heading: "Why I'm Boycotting Halloween This Year: First Person - News Results"

I read part of this blog and found it well written and very interesting. Give it a try.

I don't think I will read it. I am 72 and up until now Halloween has been fun. I liked dressing up those years that I COULD look like WonderWoman and before that when I enjoyed being a princess. I loved getting candy and giving candy and I liked to see everyone's costumes.

I liked the years when I dressed up like an old witch and no one guessed I was in costume. I just like the whole fun thing about Halloween. I am old and I don't think any blog is going to change my mind now.

Wanna come over to my house anyone? VillageFl? I have a huge bowl of candy bars, just in case.

I loved going trick or treating when I was a child, and I enjoy handing out candy to those children who ring my bell. Since I usually don't get home from work until after 5:00, I miss a lot of trick or treaters, so I leave a bowl of candy at my front door, and go on the honor system for those who get to my house before I get home from work. I'm in a townhouse, so I don't get a lot of kids trick or treating, but I do enjoy the ones I see.

Go ahead and read it, it won't hurt you. From what I have read he's not against Halloween per se. He's against commercialization by the candy industry and he gives the history of Halloween.

I read the article and one could extrapolate it to include most of the other holidays if commercialism is the catalyst to not participate. Notice how Walmart has Christmas stuff out already? When I was a kid, the Christmas season didn't officially start until Santa made his appearence at the Macy's Day parade.

In any event, I really enjoy seeing the kids in their costumes and we like to decorate with a spooky theme. I add something new every year and just like to have fun with Holloween. And yes, I still celebrate the other holidays, but always try to keep the "spirit" (pun intended) of the holiday at the forefront. :ho:

As for Gracie having candy bars...she does...and not only at Halloween :) My kinda friend.

Halloween doesn't have to be about candy. The kids and adults usually enjoy thinking up the costumes and we handed out popcorn, apples and dollarama trinkets as we got more conscious of the sugar blues etc.

It is a shame that sweets have become so synonymous with "treats" and that children often feel deprived if they are not given sweets as treats.

But I hear about more and more young parents becoming more and more conscious of how we are what we eat so I have great faith in the shift in consciousness that is going on in many areas of our lives.

Halloween was never my thing even as a kid. I didn't then, and don't now, like candy. I managed to attain my current immense size without any help from the sugary stuff.

While Halloween isn't a big deal for me, I certainly don't begrudge the kids dressing up & having a good time.

Unfortunately in the adult world Halloween has become an excuse to drink and act out making it the most unsafe holiday on the roads next to New Year's. Most hospital ERs are crammed on Halloween night with the messes caused by over-the-top adults out for a big party. Actually in the hospital my wife works in, it is far WORSE than New Year's. That's very sad.
