ugly hanging parasites?
 

my front bush is loaded with ugly grey cocoon like hanging thingies which look very bad! my neighbor sprayed the bush for me but i think i have removed some of these same things from hanging around the roofline of the house...does anyone know what they are and how dangerous to the rest of my plants?

Clip one off into a ziplock bag and take up to the co-operative extension place on the corner of 466 and Morse. They should be able to tell you what it is and how to treat it.

i did not know about that office! thanks so much for that advice! and yes, pooh, that is what they are!

I have had bagworms on evergreen bushes in the past and the only way I know to get rid of them is to pull them off and destroy them.

well, i spent a half hour pulling them off the main tree but i am afraid they might be lurking among my other bushes...i think they can be sprayed in the spring...will find out more...thanks for the advice! have a patio villa with bushes in place of lawn so could kill my entire front yard if they get ahead of me! oy vey!

Taking one of them to Extension Office is great advice. I don't think you can penetrate them with spray, when they are in a cacoon. Of course a Pressure washer will knock them down. Good Luck

I'm trying to find out from people if getting the termite coverage to a good thing? not lived here long do we get alot of termites??? let me know what you think thanks Kathy

yes, they certainly are bagworms. although they predominately enjoy needled everbgreens, when they are hungry they will eat most anything. it is nearly impossible to penetrate the sacs to kill the larvae; they are most vulnerable when they have exited and are busily munching on anything they like. Sevin has always been the best spray when they are out and actively eating. physical removal and burning of the sacs is the most effective way to get rid of them. do not delay in dealing with the problem. when they come out and eat it can get out of hand rather quickly.:cold:

kathy, i would not be without termite coverage in florida...they can cause thousands in damage...i use dean's and they insure you for replacement of damage also...lots of good companies out there....and thank you to everyone about the bagworm info...i guess spraying now would not do any good but in early spring will get done professionally...sevin! thanks...
