Preliminary Report On Damage Estimates

now that it is a few days old even Bloomberg has his priorities screwed up. He is diverting food, generators and police force from Statton Island (people with no food and no power and no homes left) to the NYC Marathon this weekend. Appeals to Bloomberg to cancel the event have been ignored.
That is totally unacceptable for the sake of those left with having to pick through garbage to get something to eat. This is not meant to be political but just one more sad state of affairs those in need have to suffer. btk |
It will not be easy, but we will recover Down the Shore, as will NYC and Long Island. I finally have a flight re-scheduled for FL, we should close on our new house in TV on Monday morning, fingers-crossed!

Perhaps having the marathon as scheduled will expedite some of the relief efforts. |
The local ABC News just reported that the NY marathon has been canceled.

I can hardly watch the television. I feel so bad for these folks. All of them because few haven't been affected.

It is very difficult to read about and watch on TV. I am flying back to Brooklyn on Sunday. Today I talked with my family on Staten Island. They have not had power but sustained no damage. They have spent their time away from college and work delivering food and supplies to some of their less fortunate friends. I wonder what I will find and how I can help others when I am home. Thank goodness New Yorkers are so resilient.

this is half of the beach house the family used to own - mother sold it a few years ago! it is a couple of miles north of seaside heights. used to be able to see the amusement pier from the deck - alas, the amusements and pier are gone, too! this is close to the northern barrier penninsula of the shore that was close to the ground zero area of mantoloking. we will always have the memories!
