My achin' back
 

I have had 7 spine operations over the past 10 years. It has always been lumbar spine and my last 2 were fusions.
Unfortunately, I seem to have lucked-out and am now in a suffering mode AGAIN and I have never seen a doc here in Fla. DOES ANYONE have a name of a doc who does surgery and has a good track record? In the past, I have only used an orthopedic surgeon.
I can't say how scared this makes me. I am a fairly tough woman and it takes alot to stop me. This is stopping me and I am in a quandry.
All of my past surgeries have been done in NY. I can't get the docs now due to Sandy. I have a pain management doc but that is of no use as he doesn't operate and is only practicing 2 years.
Any thoughts are appreciated. ~Roni~

What she said! I've had him and have espoused his expertise several times on this site!

No specific doctor recommendation but highly recommend a neurosurgeon vs. orthopedic surgeon. Have not heard a lot of good feedback when an ortho does the surgery vs. neuro. Had to have fusion myself and only will let a neuro tough me.

Also say Dr. Spurrier even tho he wouldn't operate on him. He will onlu do it if he feels it can really help you. Maybe you have had enough surgeries and could try some other options like accupuncture, massage, etc... My problem is chronic and won't be helped by fusion or anything else....wish it could. I just take the extra strength tylenol, put alot of Icyhot on and proceed with my sports, if I don't keep doing all that it would only get worse. Dr. Spurrier is the one to see for sure.

I need to also reiterate what the health-care folks said about Dr. Spurrier...all away across the board (in the hospital and out) I was told he was top-notch. The P.T. person told me this as well and added he'd seen plenty of flub-ups with other practitioners, though he didn't name them. I would definately go back if the need was there. I know someone who went to him and he told them surgery wasn't the answer but instead offered some exercises instead which were helpful. As another poster said here, he won't do the surgery if it won't help the patient.

Hi there. I need to let you know that the surgeries were ALWAYS a last resort with one exception; the first one. That was as a result of an on the job injury and emergent.
Each time I had another surgery, i was unable to walk more than 50 feet, could not bend, stand, tie laces or use facilities without a strong arm to help me move. I also had a 10 year old at the time and a disabled husband. nightmare times.
I never entered into any operation half baked. My doc also worked hard to save me and the fact that i can walk upright a bit today is in full thanks to Dr. Leone in NY. An orthopod and a darn great one. He is the creator of one of the fusion rods and plates. he devised 'safer' ones and thats great.
he is NOT knife happy and is cinservative as can be. I needed the help. Not complaining; just facts here.
