Noisy garage door

We just moved into Mission Hills. The garage door (metal to metal) makes a LOT of noise. Anyone have suggestions- solutions?

Spray some light lubricant (WD-40, Liquid Wrench, garage door spray lube, etc.) on the hinges and where the roller shafts - not on the rolling surfaces or the tracks. That should help a bit. Also a bit on the springs and the support bearings for the spring shaft wouldn't hurt.

You might want to lube the drive mechanism (chain, screw drive) as well. Some of the noise could be coming from there as well.

Bill :)

If it's a new home call the warranty department. Thety will send a repair person.

A silicon spray on the springs and rollers works best. It will not collect dirt like WD40.

:agree: Do NOT use WD-40. WD is a cleaner, not a lubricant. A Garage Door Lube, such as Blaster GDL, is available at Lowes and Home Depot.

Other things you can do is install anti vibration pads between the opener brackets and the ceiling, and install nylon rollers on the door.
Here is a very good article on noisy garage doors.....

Hope this helps.....
