colds/flu etc

Wondering what kind of virus' etc may be going around here now in The Villages!?!

Have any of the folks on this thread come down with an illness this Fall? Any good remedies that "really" do help?? Other than the usual drink lots of fluids, rest and wait........

I think it's prudent to get the flu shot. It protects against the virus strain that is prevalent for that year. It builds up your body's immunity to the flu.

My experience is that it may not prevent the flu totally but it keeps you from suffering and you are able to get through the day without severe symptons.
I have great success with the flu shot but some people don't believe in getting it.

I always get a flu shot. I never catch colds unless I'm around little kids.

I agree with Joe and JBlum too.

There is a bad cold going around our neighborhood. Whether it is the FLU-flu or something else I don't know.

I think being out and about and being with folks raises our immunity unless it is compromised by a serious illness. I am not a cart wiper for that reason.

I know. I am very opinionated...but I will NOT turn down a hug...it is good for my health and exposes me to germs that give my immune system a practice run.

Eating healthy and being in the sun is good too.

Dr. Mom....is IN.

I posted this, because I know a couple of folks who are not feeling the best (me included).

I get the flu shot every year and have since they came out I guess. Also have had the pneumonia shot as I used to have a proclivity to get that. Last year got the shingles shot.

I know shots don't always keep us from not being ill, but with some things they do. I was just taking a poll to find out what's going on with the "virus scene" here!!

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I remember the first year I got the flu shot. I came down with the flu but was saved the severe symptons that come with it.

It's very smart to get the vaccine for shingles as they are very painful.

The pnuemonia shot is necessary also. My doctor said it won't stop you from getting pnuemonia but it will prevent you from dying from it. He's not exactly Mr. Warmth.

Most people get colds from touching the same surfaces that people who do have colds and not from kissing/hugging.

Gracie, you are safe.
