Info welcome about water softner systems

Just moved into our new home in Charlotte. Wanting to purchase a water softner system. Have had some "bell ringers" come, do their sales pitch, leave a gift card and want to put it in today! Another one came, was nice, informative (for what we know about it) and was, of course less expensive. They actually showed up a few days later to see if we had made a decision!
We are not making any hasty decisions....just confused...
Any insight will be helpful, and we appreciate it.

We purchased a Morton unit from Wal-mart and hired a gentleman (plumber) who lives in TV's to install it. We also put a filter on the main water. Total cost, approx. $550.00. Send me a PM if you are interested in name and # and model #'s of water softener.
And by the way, my neighbor just purchased the same system and since he loves to drink water, said he can't believe the difference it made and no more chlorine taste.

We used Florida Water Treatment instead of GE Systems and Eco Water who charges way over $4,000. We waited and did not rush into buying anything when we first moved in. We were skeptical and did our own research. We found Florida Water Treatment Family Owned & Operated Since 1951 at 800-292-7925 which received an A+ rating with the BBB so we used them The reason we did this was because of too much chlorine in the water. I don't even like drinking the water from some of the restaurants here in The Villages. You can actually taste the difference. They charged us $2400 for reverse osmosis system plus a water softener. I would recommend them if someone is thinking of having this done. A friend of ours here in The Villages had the water tested and told us years down the road all the pipes here will get corroded. Fl is rated among 10 worst states for tap water.

Bought a Sears Hybrid softener/filter system in May and used the company that plumbed the house to install it.

It has worked perfectly and cost < $1000 installed (watch for the unit on sale).

DO NOT get involved with All About Water and Solar. I could write a book, but long story short we bought their system - ended up paying $2750 - down from their originally asking price of $6,100 for same unit. Don't ever pay anymore. It came with a free ROS - which I found out they wanted to come service every 6 months to change the filter, and I think the price was $129.00 or more. They refuse to take our phone calls. We have had it since May, and they refuse to send us the warranty, or any info on the water filtration system. I am beginning to suspect we did not get a new unit.

Just for the record, plastic pipes don't corrode.

Strongly agree about this water issue...we have this system through our current house in Kissimmee, FL which will be going on market bound to TV:pepper2:

I have a Water Boss and a whole house filter that was done by a loooong time plumber that lives here in TV. PM me and I'll give you his name and number. The whole thing was 870, but that included everything and a very neat install. He even comes out to do the 1st filter change for you. Oh, he also fills it with potassium, which IMHO, is far better than salt.

Finally got good info on a water system that not only filters but eliminates things you don't want in your water and explained in a very professional informative manner AND NO pressure To purchase, just the straight-up facts. Had system installed, work done professionally and the tech's answered all my questions, because this all new to us. Very satisfied do far, already canbtellmthe difference in the water taste.

we luv our pelican water filter plus no salt softner system. Only costs about $1700.00 (FOR PRE-FILTER, MAIN FILTER AND SOFTNER) plus a couple of hundred if you want a plumber to install it...it is nearly maintenance free except for replacing a pre-filter a couple of times a year...once every five years the other media, which is not that expensive. Has worked great for over two years in our tampa home. We plan on putting one in our soon to be villAges home.

This sounds like a great price! I have heard numbers for water systems from the low of your installed unit, to 10k or more to have a system put in. Do your research.
