What is your choice or your favorite or your traditional Christmas dinner?

On Christmas Eve...

We will have lamb roast embedded with much garlic and sprinkled with fresh rosemary and cooked low and slow until falling apart tender.(served with mint jelly) And we will have mashed potatoes and layered salad and elegant squash and broccoli parmesan and homemade yeast rolls and mixed fresh fruit and birthday cake for you know who. (We still do it even though we have no little ones) and we will wish that so many of you were there eating it with us.

Tell us about Christmas dinner or Holiday dinner that is your favorite.

Sounds good. My choice is visiting you for Christmas Eve. :) What can I bring?

We started a tradition many years ago to go to a Japanese Steak House on Christmas Eve, come home and the kids open their traditional ornament and book gift! Feel especially blessed this year as the tradition will continue in The Villages. Daughter is home for the holidays from her Peace Corps assignment in the West Indies and is driving south with her brother from North Carolina. AND my 93 year old mother will be joining us for dinner. So looking forward to it. Merry Christmas to all.

My favorite was the old traditional Italian seven course dinner.
1. Antipasto.
2. Manesh.
3. Manicotti.
4. Several types of fish.
5. Linguini with clam sauce.
6. Chestnuts and fennel.
7. Dessert, (homemade cookies, Italian pastry).

That sounds wonderful 2BNTV! This is my first Christmas in TV. Sooooo happy! Since it will be just me and hubby we are going to cook steaks, potatoes and roasted veggies on the grill! A new tradition will begin!

Very similar to 2B for Christmas Eve - traditionally no meat.

On Christmas day - Lasagna, sausages, meatballs, ham, sausage bread, potatoes and . . . well . . . ANYTHING. LOL

2BNTV, I love Italian food. What is manesh?

As with any good meal, the company counts most. Bad food can't ruin good company, but bad company can sure ruin a good meal. I have been lucky in that my family has always been good company at holiday times.

My fondest memories of holiday repasts were at my grandparents' home in Connecticut. There was a fire in the fireplace. Gramps always made a big batch of VO Manhattans. We kids got the cherries from the adults' glasses, and maybe a sip too. Granny was a great cook. I remember the menu always being the same. Turkey, sausage stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, creamed turnips, Brussels sprouts, pumpkin pie, either a mincemeat or a lemon meringue pie, and lots of good sauternes wine. Good food. Good company.

Most of that company has passed on. Those that are left have developed newer family ties, but, wherever we are, the company is still good and we're still logging fond memories.

~ Pureed broccoli soup w/garlic chips
~ Glazed ham w/Bourbon-apple-raisin sauce
~ Turkey w/plum sauce
~ Spicy cranberry-orange relish
~ Potato-fennel-gruyere gratin
~ Oven roasted vegetables (carrots, parsnips, turnips, etc.)
~ Sparkling Malbec Rosé wine
~ Brownies w/Manjar-Almond ice-cream
... and good company.

First Christmas Eve alone!!
 

This is our first year we haven't been with family so with just the two of us we've decided to make it easy and get a cooked chicken from Walmart (they are very tasty) and have mashed potatoes, rolls and a veggie. After, we will put a Christmas movie in and watch it while the tree glistens with its lights. Tomorrow we will have a crown roast pork dinner with our neighbors. This year it was really hard to get in the Christmas spirit as we aren't use to the weather being so warm but we will get use to it! Merry Christmas!!

Menest is a soup type dish made with escarole, anchovies and black olives.
The escarole melts in your mouth as it comes out so tender.

Smoked baby back ribs with my special BBQ sauce. Low and slow cooked. They are fantastic.. Baked potato, roasted carrots in dill and Christmas cookies. Oh and don't forget you're favorite wine...

Mike and I decided to splurge this year so we invited a famous executive chef from Chicago to prepare our feast of roast tenderloin of beef, mashed Yukon gold potatoes, fresh green beans from the local Farmers's market, along with whatever else he decides will be fitting for his family....:D
Jim, Leslie and the kids are here and Mike will play sous chef while Jim does his magic in the kitchen. Pastry chef (Mike, also) has prepared a fresh apple and a pumpkin pie for dessert. Will probably take a week to clean the kitchen, but it is so worth it....good food and the blessing of having our children and grandchildren here to share in the joy and magic of Christmas.

and family being elsewhere, we didn't know what we were going to cook for just the two of us, but since our neighbors on either side didn't have any plans either, we invited them to our house tomorrow afternoon. Pineapple glazed ham, Au Gratin Potatoes, Green Beans w/slivered almonds, Deviled Eggs (just 'cause), Yeast rolls; one neighbor is bringing a salad and the other is bringing dessert, so it should be a good meal and we'll get to know our neighbors better. Looking forward to it!
