"I am retired, relieved, and rejoicing".
Line from Rooster Cogburn and the Lady after a judge tries to get John Wayne's character Rooster Cogburn to take back the badge that the judge just took away from him. I suppose many TOTVers had the same feeling when they retired. Was this your experience upon retirement? |
Yes all of the years of doing without and living within my means so I could retire at 50 were well worth it. I'm having the time of my life

I retired 5 years ago, and I had mixed emotions. I LOVED my job as a marketing manager with Principal Financial Group (as well as my previous jobs as a high school coach and insurance manager). It was challenging, fullfilling, and a great work environment, plus I had dozens of good friends there. However, when I went to work there, knowing I would work only five more years, we decided to buy our retirement home on a lake, 2 hours from work and I leased an apartment within walking distance of my office. I tired of the weekly commute, and being in the apartment by myself every week. I took a lot of PTO on Fridays and bought extra PTO so I could have long weekends, but it still wore on me. Had we bought a home in Des Moines, where the office was, I would undoubtedly have worked another 3 years or so, retiring at 65 rather than 62. But, I would have missed out on a lot of good times, including winter visits to South Padre Island, Tx., and the last 3 years in TV. All in all I have no regrets as my philosophy is always to look forward.

Our first Florida experience goes all the way back to 1962 when my wife and I took a "delayed" honeymoon down one coast of Florida and up the other. We were astonished at the beauty----we made many trips after that but none as exciting as the '62 trip. I said then what a wonderful place to retire someday. That became a major long range goal for us. Many years past----college, our son, work, life's mountain tops and valleys, grandchildren and saving for our long range goal. When we were offered early retirement, we didn't think twice and off to Florida we came in 1998. Regrets-----I've had a few but never about retirement and never about Florida and never about buying in TV in 2006. Truly, we are blessed. We are returning to TV right after Christmas, Merry Christmas to all and safe travel. God Bless.

I am working until my condo sells and then giving my two weeks notice. I would have retired at 65 but my unit did not sell and I would climb the walls if I had to stay home with nothing to do.
TV has so many things to do so I am looking forward to the day when I can do what I want as opposed to what someone else wants and I get to play with wonderful folks. I am chomping at the bit. :D |

I am retired, relieved and rejoicing but that was close to 15 years ago. I retired at 60 and haven't missed a day of work. I worked for only one company, Time Warner Inc., for close to 40 years. I enjoyed working though it had ups and downs but having been able to travel around the world many times over, meeting many people from around the world, that was good. But, work comes with stress and after 40 years time to rejoice and am enjoying my new found friends and activities in TV. There are three stages of life and I am close to half way mark on the third stage. Glad I found TV at this stage of life.
