What is Podocarpus?

It sure looks like a Podocarpus. I have some in my back yard as a hedge to hide a green electrical box.

I agree podocarpus.

name this plant

If it gets lovely red berries, dont touch them! Poisonous.
On a lighter note, i think you should call it 'Robert' :icon_wink:

Geewiz 12-30-2012 05:33 PM

I would name it "George."

Sorry, but that's NOT correct. The fruit (the fleshy part) of the berries is not toxic, only the seed.

The fruit is actually edible, so there certainly is no danger in just touching the berries.

Podocarpus macrophyllus | Eat The Weeds and other things, too

I would call it "Philomena Podocarpus".

Bill-n-Brillo 12-30-2012 08:06 PM

.......or just Phil, for short. :D

Bill :)

can you do that?

is it legal to grow that in the state of FL???

Golfingnut 12-31-2012 05:02 AM

Podocarpus is correct. We had it installed to provide privacy around our pool. It is very Florida friendly, grows slow and is evergreen.

I stand corrected. But, the one that grows here in England is poisonous, so I assumed they all were/are.
They do look beautiful when the berries are covering the shrub!
