I'm Trying to Understand.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me with an answer why the majority of Villagers simply don't use turn signals. First it is the law when changing lanes or making a turn that a driver use his turn signal. And just as important is the safety factor. I just cannot understand why a driver chooses to not signal his intention. If I didn't know better, I would assume that most autos and golf carts are not equipped with turn signals, and I don't think most drivers have a left arm missing, or the effort requires too much strength. On the positive, for many. the turn signals will be the last part of their car to wear out. I ride a bike several days each week and it is so frustrating to approach an intersection an the same time as a auto and not have a clue what that driver intends to do. Jusy today I stopped my bike and did a mioni survey at the Morse/441 circle, of the 27 autos I was able to view as they exited, only 11 signaled their intention. Some of the drivers actually exited from the inside circle lane to the outside lane on Morse cutting off those autos only making a 1/4 circle to their exit. Scary to watch such poor drivers this when they do this.

But the same folks who don't know where the turn signal is can readily find the horn.

They had just that type of accident in a circle at Stillwater and Morse today about 1:00 PM. Sherif there waving his hands showing the proper way to go through the circle and turn. I could tell from his sign language the proper way to navigate the round about. Expensive lesson for one of them.:cryin2:

I would guess people have fallen into bad driving habits. They seem and I am somtimes guilty of this too, act like a turn signal is not part of the car.

It's not just Florida but all over the USA. I seldom see people using their turn in CT.

Not hard, just read the signs.

I would say that the main reason is they come from another state in the union where we all know that most people these days, no matter where they are from, do not use there turn signals.
How are they suppose to drive, use their signals and use a smart phone!
Something had to go, and that would be the turn signals.
That would be my guess.

Have to agree - it's not just The Villages - moved here from Wilmington NC and I was convinced they sold cars without turn signals there. Can't explain it, don't understand it, but sure do not like it!

My wife forgot to tell me to use it.

As a newbie, I found the roundabouts a bit intimidating, though the sequence of arrows was pretty straightforward. However, many others may find it a bit confusing at first and I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt. After a few times around, they will get the hang of it! But not using signals is even more problematic. I am always appreciative when people on the carts use hand signals as well as it reinforces their intent! As in any state, some are good, some not so much. It isn't just here, but everywhere we travel. Relax and enjoy the ride!
