Address the ball

You can tell by my post that I don't golf but what does it mean to address the ball,do say hello or shake hands what?

Cisco Kid 01-11-2013 11:35 AM

You write your address on it so if it is loss some one can return it to you.

(Golf) to take aim at the ball, adjusting the grip on the club, the attitude of the body, etc., to a convenient position.

You address the ball by looking down at it and in your most polite voice say "G'day Mr. Callaway. I hope everything is clear sailing for you today! :duck:

mulligan 01-11-2013 12:54 PM

Put someone else's address on it in case you break a window

JoeC1947 01-11-2013 03:15 PM

As Ed Norton would say "Hello ball"

Lou Costello said hello to the ball.
Very funny scene from one of their movies probably from the 40s.

To me it's when you get up and ready to hit.

I never say hello to my ball. I should be more polite and she'll take a better ride... I always use a female ball.

When a golfer is addressing the ball, in other words preparing to HIT the ball, that is a sign to others nearby to cease conversation and movement.

:agree:

If you were playing with someone like ex-president Gerarld Ford, you made sure you were behind the addresser of ball. :jester:

Thank you, Gracie. I'm laughing, though. It'll be a great story down the line. All the talk about driving defensively through the rental season and roundabout slip-ups, cars on cart paths, etc... Watch out for the golfers' "driving"!

Addressing the ball

When I address the ball I usually say, "OK Sweetie, this is what I need you to do. Go long and straight, and avoid all bushy, sandy or wet areas." If I am near water I do include an apology, a farewell, and the Last Rites. I'm just saying.
