Cars parked in the driveway

As we look more and more, we're wondering if we could live with a CYV instead of a house. (My wife really doesn't want to worry about a yard.) Most of these seem to have 1.5 car garages. So, my question.

Can you leave a car parked in your driveway all the time? Does this depend on this village you're in?

If it's legal, does it still annoy the neighbors if you do?

Also, can you park at the curb during the day?

I appreciate your thoughts.

Hey, I also want to echo what a number of people have said on other threads the last few days. I really do appreciate this forum and the ability to get quick information for almost all friendly people.

Here's a link to look up the deed restrictions for the particular villa that you are interested in...just in case it's not the same.
Village Community Development Districts

In my villa area, you are allowed to keep a car in the driveway. Most peolpe do, and no one complains. You are NOT allowed to park on the street.

Of course. My hubby parks in the garage and my car is always in the driveway unless I am off and running. All my neighbors also park in the driveway. Plus a lot of them leave their golf car outside all night.

I wouldn't park on the curb. Not enough room to drive down the street as it is now. Curb parking is reserved for contractors and landscapers.

Just our thinking...

When we started looking at house options, our intent was to purchase the largest CYV available. Eventually, we turned away from the CYV because of the garage and driveway parking issues which were somewhat limiting to us and our lifestyle.

Another small thing that we didn't care too much for was that the CYV designs at the time (don't know if newer models are still that way) was that neighbor had to walk onto "our" driveway a bit to gain access to their side yard. I would've worried about unintentionally leaving a hose or other tripping hazard in the driveway

Yes, the layout is a bit strange. Most people have a lock on the gate. When you want to power wash your house or have the pest control peolpe spray around your house, you have to co-ordinate it with your neighbor--- they need to unlock their gate--- to give access to the one side of your home. It takes a bit of getting used to.

I believe you can park in your drive,no deed restriction there.

No deed restriction there either

Parking on Streets

Several years ago, Village Watch would notify people that overnight parking in our villa neighborhood was not allowed. That policy has stopped. The streets are public roads, and unless posted as 'no parking' by the county, overnight parking is allowed. This usually only occurs when people have overnight guests. Care should be taken to make sure emergency vehicles can pass through.

Some people always park in their driveways and some always park in the garage. Our three bedroom villa has room for the car and two golf carts in the garage, (Anna Maria model).

Is there such a thing as a CYV w/a 2 car garage?

mrdarcy 01-12-2013 06:06 PM

Yes. There is such a thing as a CYV with a 2 car garage. They are relatively rare, however. You can ask your realtor/sales agent to watch for one and notify you when one comes available either new or used. You ought not to deliberate too long, though, as the the 2 car CYVs get sold pretty quickly.

asianthree 01-12-2013 06:47 PM

Old Dave you can look at the cyv up by LSL some have 2 car garages, we wanted a cyv, but at the time 2car garages were few and far between. So we settled for a cottage and hired someone to do the lawn

OldDave 01-12-2013 08:12 PM

Yes, the cottage is the other thing we're considering. However, my wife likes the idea of the privacy of the tall walls in the CYV. We rented a pretty large house this summer, much bigger than we could ever afford, yet it had no privacy at all. I cannot imagine really even opening windows and we felt we were sharing the pool with the neighbors. (We've since given up on the idea of a pool.)

I'm also thinking with the walls all around the villa units, it would be harder for gators, snakes, lions, tigers, and bears to get to your house.

We have a CYV with a 2 car garage and bought it the day after it came on the market. Right about not waiting too long!

perrjojo 01-12-2013 08:52 PM

Many CYVs in Mission Hills have 2 car garages but you may have to wait for a resale. I think there are 12 left and not all of those have 2 car garages
