Computer new to mac
My husband and attended our first meeting with this club today and we were a little disappointed. This club I thought was directed to people that never used macs and would discuss the workings of the computer. We had a PC and our son bought us a Mac mini for Christmas. And we are fairly clueless on how to use it. In the rec news it said it was a meeting on basics especially those who are shifting from a PC. Did we go to the wrong meeting? Started off to a good start explaining the address book but then the discussions went to the I pad and I phone and using a system for pictures. We left thinking we waisted $10.00. Is there some place that we could go to get some hands on classes. Thanks::shrug:

The Mac is very easy to use and you only need to know a few basics to get going. If you have some specific questions, PM me [or post on here] and I will try to help you out. The other alternative is to make an appointment at the Apple Store and one of their Geniuses will give you a one-on-one session; albeit, you have to pay for that. |
We would like to know what word processor we have so my husband can make business cards and was wondering about the keyboard short cuts.

To determine if you have a word processor, click in the icon that looks like a rocket in the dock. You'll be looking for a program called Pages. |
Thanks for all the info. My husband will be checking this out.

I have a macbook air, and installed Open Office, a freeware productivity suite very similiar to Microsoft Office. You don't have to install all the modules. I have the Text, Spreadsheet and Data portions loaded. You can find it at Apache OpenOffice for MacOS X
Once you get used to it, you'll love your new mac! |
I have found the Mac User Group meetings to be very helpful and the volunteers that run the meetings to be very nice people who do a wonderful job. If you look at Guides that help you learn to use a Mac - Switch To A Mac Guides you will find a lot of useful information that will help you switch over from Windows to Mac OS X.
