At least Shania Twain and Kate Upton are real people. This guy was 'emotionally involved' with a someone who doesn't even exist.

On the serious side of this story the sad truth is that had the news media conducted a proper investigation/verification they would have easily exposed thos hoax before it went anywhere. This is just one example of the failing of journalism today and why politicians, celebrities etc get so much by people

On the serious side is this episode ig going to drop him in the draft and cost him million assuming he was a victim.

I personally don't see how this have gone on for a year without him actually meeting her in person. But then, no one knows the whole story. Very strange.

I've met Manti in person just last month in Orlando. When you have a background like his deeply based in the Mormon Faith along with his genuine belief he was put on this Earth to help others I get where he fell for this sick joke. Someone playing his generosity and loving spirit. Having a online relationship only is not far fetched in today's social media society. In fact it happens here in TV all the time with widows and widowers who looking for compassion to fill there now empty life, fall for scams of others on line. Teo is a victim here.

It is not the news media's job to verify girl friend stories. There was no reason initially not to believe him. Of course it was the media which did finally investigate, so give them credit. If he is a victim he certainly was extremely complicit in the story including having claimed to have met her and spoken to her repeatedly. His cell phone records would clarify. After Lance Armstrong this week, I suppose we all are very sceptical of the claims of athletes. One alternative explanation circulating is that she, real or imagined, functioned as his beard.

Lance Armstrong should call and thank Te'o personally for taking the attention away from him. This story is bizarre to say the least. It had the twitterverse all abuzz yesterday.

Why on earth is this newsworthy ? ?

Manti Te'o was considered for the Heishman trophy which is a pinnacle for college football players and he has talked about this alleged girfriend for about a year.

It will cost him millions of dollars and it's very strange to have a girlfriend and possibly never met her. the media talked about his supposed dead girlfriend who supposedly dies within 48 hours of the death of his grandmother. No records exist oh her birth and or death. Whether this was an elaborate hoax or he is part of creating this girlfriend for P.R. purposes is very intriging.

It's a bizarre story to say the least.
