One in eight older Americans has Alzheimer's disease. Statistically, there are 11,500 victims now living in The Villages.

Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed. There are no survivors.

State Representative H. Marlene O'Toole, a Village of Mira Mesa resident, is the honorary chairwoman of the walk.

To participate in the walk, Villagers should pick up a registration form at any of The Villages recreation centers. Or go to the AFO web site to download the forms.

Help find a cure for "the long goodbye."

If you know a caregiver, find a way to give her or him a break.

If you haven't pre-registered yet, you can do so today, starting at 2:30 PM, in the parking lot of the New Covenant United Methodist Church, which is located behind the Publix at the Southern Trace Plaza.

Registration/check-in will be tomorrow from 7:30 AM to 8:45 AM at The Villages Polo Pavilion and Track. The events begin at 9:00 AM.

Golf Cart Rally participants will meet at 7:30 AM in the parking lot behind Sonny's BBQ at Lake Sumter Landing.
