When the pilot on the hot water does not light who do you call?

This is my week for hot water problems. First the pressure relief valve and now the heater will not light. I can get the pilot to light as directed and how most gas burners work. But even after holding the pilot on for several minutes it goes out when releasing to go to on.

I tried to call TECO but have as yet not found any service that is working during non office hours.

Who do you call here in TV?

We don't have gas in our village. Sounds like you have a mechanical problem with your hot water heater----unless you smell gas then you can call 911 for them shut the gas off.

Clean any ash from the burner, a vacuum works best. Be sure the thermocouple and pilot light area are clean. Then try to light it again. If that doesn't work replace the thermocouple. Lowe's or Handy City should have the part.

Put on a new thermocouple. A one beer repair. Very simple. Get new one at Lowes Home Depot, or Ace.
No you don't have to Call Ghost Busters.

Already posted on your other post on the subject. Down Sized is right on with his post on it most likely being a bad thermocouple.

Here is some good info. Be sure to read about LP gas if that is what you have. Watch video 2 but remember you may not have to remove the burner assy. How to test water heater thermocouple

My neighbor's pilot light went out and I got it lit for him but it kept going out. He had his control unit replaced for $175 because the tech said the thermocouple was coated. Sounds like he was ripped off and a new thermocouple would have done the trick.
