Availability of Residential Electrical Plans

A friend of ours purchased a new Cabot Cove villa. Right inside the front door there's a group of four switches, three of which are operational. It's not obvious what the fourth switch controls. My guess is that it's a three-way switch intended to control the DR light but either not connected or not connected correctly. Does anyone know in addition to floor plans, if electrical plans for homes in TV are available as a PDF file? I guess we could also look for same model at an open house or call the warranty office.

George

Call the warranty office and they can tell you but it is more fun to discover which switches work on which lights. I know that some of the designers have switches to light the above cabinet area.

I found the reference, but no link. I do remember seeing it and tried it out.

Could you please repost the link?

Thanks....

gryoung, in our patio villa, those 4 wall switches control the front porch/lanai light, the coach lights outside (beside the garage door), the entrance ceiling light, and the ceiling fan in the lanai. If you don't have that ceiling fan, there is probably a cover plate in the lanai ceiling where they've pre-wired for hanging a fan. That's what the non-functional inside wall switch would be for.

Bill :)

Go to county building department. They have all the plans on file. You will be charged per page...not sure how much.

jimbo2012 01-27-2013 10:12 AM

they R there to download for free

one of mine is for an outlet on the opposite wall to turn on a table or floor lamp...

Look on the floor of your living room for an outlet.

Jimbo et al, a million thanks for your directions. I downloaded all of the building plans, incl Electrical in one PDF. It's valuable info to have this in one place for future reference. The fourth swich that appeared to be non-functional, as Bill pointed out actually controlls the coach lights outside the garage--according to the building plans. I suspect my friend missed it when I sent him outside to check. You know the old expression, "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself."

I knew it didn't control an outlet in the LR\DR because that's the first place I checked.

BTW, I had to use Firefox to on the Building Dept. web site. https://etrakit.sumtercountyfl.gov/eTRAKiT2/Index.aspx

After almost seven years I'm still impressed by the wealth of knowledge contributing to TOTV. Thank you.

George
I'm still impressed
