Hummingbirds
 

We recently received a hummingbird feeder as a gift. I've never seen a hummingbird in TV. Has anyone had any luck attracting them here?

I like to attract them also to our yard.

The Ruby-throated Hummingbird lives in central Florida, almost all year round, and have many species pass through during migration twice a year.

I have talked with some knowledgeable folks, and the important thing is the yard and neighborhood. Because of their high metabolism, they don't waste time looking for new food sources. If they have found a reliable food source they will visit frequently.

If you have not done so, Consider planting plants and shrubs that are known hummingbird food sources that are native to Florida. The University of Florida has some excellent hummingbird information and feed plant lists at the following web site:

something I learned not long ago. hummers use the carbs to pursue other food, which is insects. Most of Florida can get hummers with some red flowers and or a feeder, but I wonder if TV has enough foliage and insects for them? seems a pretty sterile environment for wildlife.

I have neighbors that have placed firecracker plant and plumbago in their back landscape and have seen lots of hummingbirds at these plants! Delightful!

They are tinier than what I am used to seeing, come in groups and are lickety-split gone in a flash so you have to keep a sharp lookout for them, but they certainly are here!

Once you begin to explore TV, you will no longer think it is a sterile environment for wildlife. You are in for a most pleasant surprise, I promise!!!

I also have them all over my firecracker plants. I sit on the front porch and watch them throughout the day. Also have seen them momentarily sitting on the frond of a nearby palm tree. No feeder necessary.
