Gopher Holes in Yard

We must have a gopher or some other critter that is digging holes in our yard. There is a big pile of dirt (1 ft high) and getting bigger everyday. Our neighbors have had several in their front yard. Anyone have any experience with this. We're not sure how to get rid of them. Maybe there's a whole "gopher city" living under our yards....YIKES!! Help anyone!!

You can use google to find out about some control methods but you could try running your hose down the hole for awhile and maybe drown the critter.

You can try humane methods...gophers have an excellent sense of smell..they do not like citronella or cinnamon or several other aromatic spices. Just put down some cinnamon into and around the mounds. It will repel them but not hurt them. Google it if you want more ideas.

Chances are that you have a gopher tortise burrow in your yard. Gopher tortises are threatened and are protected by Federal law. Please look at the attached link for more information.

call you pest guy - may be fire ants working overtime - they make big piles of sand when they are in action.

They are probably moles. Ridding your lawn of moles: What really works - MSN Real Estate

Sounds like pocket gophers to me. Home Depot has different methods to rid your yard of them.

That was my guess also. fire ants live 8 feet down so they carry their eggs to the surface to incubate them in the sun

Gophers, not ants, too big of a mound. Had em two years ago, they just took over. Call the Gopher guy, Bray's, that advertises in the Sun and they will, over a few months get rid of them for you. I feel your pain.....

Probably gophers, I had one in my yard next to the golf course. Tried everything from poison, natural remedies to flushing out with hoses. Nothing worked. I looked like Bill Murray in Caddyshack. I think the gopher found my antics amusing. I finally gave up. The golpher(s) moved on. I was amazed by how fast they could pile up dirt. Enough to fill a 5 gallon bucket, in about the time it takes to make a grilled cheese sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup.
