Dear Auto Driver
 

Dear Auto Driver what is that causes you to intentionally speed up your auto in order to jump ahead of the golf cart that is ahead of you, and whom has given the proper signals for merging from the diamond lane to the road in order to make a left or right onto a cartpath?

Do you feel you are entitled to be ahead of this golf cart? Do you view the golf cart as an object, a non person, thus forgetting that human beings are riding inside? Do you always speed up ahead of golf carts as a matter of practice and preference? Is it that you are a hopless competitor and beating the golf cart to the gate a challenge?

Perhaps it has to do with a physical limitations, and despite the fact that you have a clear view, with no objections of curves, shrubs, trees, etc., your eysight is not what it use to be? Perhaps you experienced a simple cerbral whiteout?

Whatever the reason(s) you need to control and contain it because one of these days you are going to cause some very serious bodily harm to some very nice but unsuspecting people who are abiding by the Rules of the Road.
I can assure you that if you do it will weigh heavily on your conscious for years to come

I agree,, I carry a brick in my cart , are times I Wuld like to throw it thru the windshield ,,,but I refrain ,,, and just make the sign of the cross at them ,, cause they will need the Lords. Blessing driving like that... I am not catholic but us of the Jewish faith only have one hand signal that would explain my honest emotions at some of these folks. And that wouldn't be very nice to do!!!

I am always very cautious about driving on Morse when I come to San Marino Drive. There quite often are golf carts who turn LEFT onto San Marino from the right-hand "diamond" cart lane and they do not even look to see if there is car traffic next to them. They just turn!

A few blocks further on is Rio Grande Blvd. I have seen too many golf carts go straight across Rio Grande to continue up Morse without giving way to the car traffic turning right onto Rio Grande.

Those two intersections have more than their fair share of car vs. cart accidents.

Well, going up that road may be a little dangerous, but it sure is worth it when you are going to dinner at Hacienda Hills Country Club!!

It seems to me every week there is a thread about rude / dangerous drivers. Some of the drivers are driving cars, some bikes, some carts, some their shoes (as in walking / running). Seems to me if people are rude or dangerous they are going to be rude / dangerous no matter what thier mode of transportantion

Lots of "cart drivers" also drive that way. Thinking of themselves only.

I couldn't agree more! It's the driver/rider/walker/runner not the vehicle that they use. A jerk in a cart will, likely, be a jerk behind the wheel of his car or any other means of transportation he uses.

TOTV *needs* to get a *LIKE* tab as Facebook has so we can just click on comments that we agree with!!! There were several here! I commented to my spouse just yesterday how it seems traffic has increased this month over last month (the renters and snowbirds). We ALL need to do our part....don't know how many we can edumacate on this site! Folks do what they're going to do. If they're complainers---they complain, if they're entitled---they'll continue with that as well. Folks tend not to think we're "talking about them"!! But I agree that drivers of all kinds, some walkers and others could use a dose of what it means to be polite!!

How many times have you passed a Yamaha golf cart and they have their left turn signal on forever. It seems like everytime you go out. Of course there is an excuse, the steering wheel blocks your view of the indicator light and so unless you move your head you can't see it. I know I was guilty a couple of times, but I did something about it. Go to the LSL Yamaha dealer and for $55 they will install LED indicator lights on the windshield side posts at eye level, you can't help but see them and you'll never drive with your left turn signal on again.

I totally agree with your post. Just yesterday I was riding my bike in the cart lane and had a close call. I was approaching a cross street when a car passed me and made an immediate right turn in front of me nearly hitting me on the bike. All that driver would have had to do is wait one second and allowed me to pass beyond the side street before making his turn.

I'm so glad that you are OK! What you described is the classic "right hook." I'm sure if the driver had actually hit you, he would tell the officer that he didn't see you (another classic line of defense).
