Why are manhole covers round?

1. Easier to put a round cover on a round hole.
2. Easier to move a wheel shaped object.
3. Least area so less cost in metal and less weight.
4. Shape that does not fall into hole even though it has wider rim than hole.
5. Who cares?
6. Easier for Hulk to throw at invading aliens like frisbee.

Man hole covers are round simply because they are "man holes" (LOL!). Actually, think about it, no human being is "square" and we're all a little bit round.

Shape that does not fall into hole even though it has wider rim than hole. A square cover would fit easily through a square hole...and man-o-man, would that thing hurt if it hit you on the head! :boom:

I wonder how Ed Norton would answer that question?
Here's a very good answer-- If Richard Feynman applied for a job at Microsoft - sellsbrothers.com

Microsoft asked this question as part of their interview process, so saith Wikipedia. My faves are that the round shape offers unfallability and rollability.

I'm surprised that no one has offered a "pi are square" twist or answer to the question yet! :throwtomatoes:

Manufacturing round is easier, thus cheaper than square.

Simple fact by Bell Labs "round manhole covers can not fall into manhole and
injury nor cause damage to anyone or equipment. BELL SYSTEM
