Landscaping for kissing lanai

How have you handled an area to have some quite time while sitting on your very close kissing lanai...sometimes you just need to be alone...any solutions, plants, shades???????

I've seen large ligustrum trees about 8 feet tall; planted close together they are like a hedge - very private, you can't see the house behind you and you feel like you are in a woodsy oasis.

Bottlebrush shrubs are inexpensive, hardy, fast growing, colorful and disease resistant. Plant them 4 ft apart and soon you won't see your neighbor's lanai.

Good suggestion! Fast grower and easy to maintain.

We saw many creative landscaping applications that we took note of in our golf car travels. A very pleasant way to learn our way around as well.

It was especially helpful to go through older, more established areas to see how large the various plants could grow over time and also how they looked from season to season.
Helped us decide what we wanted for our own home.
Make it a fun excursion!

8-10 foot Sugar Palms. Maintainence free and very tropical.

My 2 cents (for what it is worth) is consider long and hard where you want to position the shrubs/hedge. I have seen so many disasters where they are right up against the lanai blocking any breeze or light that might enter and I would image making it feel too much like a tomb in the lanai.

The designers at Village Palms are professionals at creating imaginative and affordable screen plantings that will create immediate privacy. They have done several projects in our neighborhood and I would not hesitate to have them execute something for us.

Our neighbor built a birdcage and hot tub that is much closer than we would like, but right on the property line. We put up cooleraroo shades in brown. We keep them down half way and it makes our lanai cozy and the neighbors cannot see in (they are higher up). My hubby bought some tie downs at Sparrs that hold them down well so no flopping around. These were purchased off the rack at Home Depot (or Lowe's I can't remember which).
