Golf Cart Battery Meter going nuts...
I have a 2003 Club Car, 48v. Today, I noticed the battery meter/gauge, the needle type, twitching wildly back and forth. It seemed sort of steady in the green zone during cruising speed but twitched back and forth wildly when accelerating/decelerating. It even twitched intermittently when the cart was stopped, motor was off and keys removed.
So for Frank or any armchair golf cart experts...any ideas? Does the battery gauge draw current from the batteries? Do the gauges/meters go bad? Right now, I have it charging and will do voltmeter and hydrometer test in the morning to make sure no battery or cell is going bad. Batteries are a little less than 18 months old. Thanks in advance for any suggestions ... :gc: |
In order of possibilities
bad wires battery bad cell in battery Bad meter and or connection |
Talked to Shon at 5 Star, our repair guy, and he guided me through the wiring. Sure enough, the wires near the battery, both the one going into a fuse box and the one coming out of the battery were frayed/damage. Just a little bit of jiggling totally killed the meter connection. A little electrical tape for a patch job and I'll let him fix it correctly during a needed maintenance checkup next week.
Thanks GolfCart for your suggestions. Fortunately, the batteries are still fine. |
Good job !!!
I'm glad it's not the batteries also |
