Do any of use an auto-fill on your pools?

Or do you find the evaporation isn't that much?

I read that in central fl you can lose 3/4" - 1" a week.

What do U think?

In the summer there is evaporation. How much I don't know, just refill manually.
BTW always wondered what would happen if the auto fill failed to shut off? Big mess!

I have a Paramount "paralevel" auto fill/drain. Works great for evaporation and monsoon rains, set it and forget it.

we have autofill but not the one you show.

And if they do not shut off, which has happened to mine on more than one ocassion, they do not create a mess because it is so slow a fill and just gets recirculated or drain in the over fill....but it does raise the water bill and I mean significantly.

Most autofills are nothing more than a toilet tank fill valve and have proven to be suject to jamming with a grain of sand or what ever else may ail it.

As a result I have now a marked spot on the pool wall that i use to gage a need to fill level and place a hose in for an hour or two and it brings it right back. This time of year maybe once evry couple of weeks. In the summer time more like once per week. Evaporation is substantial in the summer months.

An auto fill system is best installed when building a pool because the water line can be buried and out of the way. I had to do it after pool construction two years ago, and I found a way to run a line which would not interfere with anything. Be sure to use a uv resistant clear plastic line, 3/8" inside diameter which will not deteriorate in the sun. There is a Texas firm on the internet that sells it. Use good brass connectors. I installed a plastic box type unit from Pool Sentry. It was about $70. I have had no problems with it jamming. I do not notice any significant water usage increase. Because I am away a lot, evaporation was a problem. Problem solved.

I love the auto fill feature on our pool. We didn't have it in Orlando, and every time it rained, we ( and our neighbors) had hoses running to the storm drains to lower the pool level. And in the winter, during the dry time, we'd have to watch to maintain the level of the pool. It wasn't too much of a problem since we live here year round, but it would be if we were snowbirds.

A Great Decision
 

When I had T&D add a spillover spa to our pool, I also had them install an auto-fill. It was one of the simplest, best, inexpensive decisions I ever made. No more dragging the hose into the birdcage, waiting forever while the 5/8-inch garden hose dribbled away into the pool, etc.

Of course, the auto-fill is also an "auto-empty", keeping the water level constant even after heavy rainstorms. No more dragging that blue hose off the pump and emptying the pool after those summer gulley-washers.
