Time to change the microwave filter
Can't find the manual. Where did you buy your filters for when they need to be changed and does anyone know the model number for the designer homes in case there is a difference between designer microwaves and premier?
|
I have never heard of a microwave filter???
|
Well my microwave is saying change filter...
|
Very interesting . . . learn something new every day! Good luck. I hope someone posts a response for you.

look up the manual online
because there are different brands and different models in some appliances used depending on when and where your house was built, and also probably which builder as well as which home series and whether or not it was built with an upgrade.
Or check with a neighbor to make sure they have the same model, and see if they have their manual. |
ha. and I thought this would be a simple question..
|
maybe the fan filter?
if your microwave is over your range? Some of these are cleanable, I think.
I have met people here who have NEVER used their range, only their microwave. |
If it is GE go here https://www.geapplianceparts.com/GEApplianceParts/

Model #
My model number is right on the front of the microwave - it's a GE, Model is Spacemaker XL1800. I think my sister's house - a designer of the same era, has the same. I have a CYV, both built in 2006.

If you mean the exhaust fan that is beneath the microwave, ours is a 'permanent' one- removable and washable.
Best way for me is: in a wash basin, with REALLY hot sudsy (like Dawn dishwashing detergent) & water. Agitate it a bit, let it sit for a bit. Grease will melt off. Can lightly scrub it without damage. Rinse well in HOT water and let dry before returning it to it's position. If you would rather replace it than clean it, you can probably order the part online, but as it might not meant to be disposable, it may be expensive. If you mean a filter INSIDE the microwave itself, I am at a loss. A "change filter" sign - wow. Wonder what it would filter from inside the microwave? |

I have that model, I believe. Look under the microwave and see if your filter looks like the one in this picture. If so, it is washable. Slide it to one side or the othe other and it comes out. Wash with soap and water, let it dry, put back in and you're good to go.

It's a Whirlpool. If you take off the piece that sits on top of where the door and controls are, there is a filter inside. The message came on today where the time usually shows. Just found the manual. Says to change every six months. Off to Home Depot? Lowes? We'll see.
