MVP Garage door opener problems

We have a MVP garage door opener and have had numerous problems with the neighbors opening our door with their openers. Ongoing for over 6 yrs.
Other neighbors on our street have the same problem too.

RoMac has been here numerous times. They reset the unit and then a few months later it happens again. Their suggestion was to buy a Chamberlain belt driven unit to solve the problem permanently. $400.00 installed.
The tech said they have at least 10 calls per week with this problem.
Per RoMac tech they are still installing MVP garage door openers in the new area which is strange.

Anyone on here have similar problems? Please let me know.

Thanks!

Oh boy. We had a problem when we first moved in. Finally the door came down on the car. They switched out the code for another because apparently someone else had the same code and there was no further problem. Other than they refused to pay for the damage to the door when it hit the top of the car.

The MVP remote uses a nine digit code that can be reprogrammed. There are SO many possible combinations. i suggest that you just reprogram it again. The chance of picking the same code as a neighbor is really slim. (I think ROMAC uses the same 10 combinations over and over)

Hi Julie:
We have the same problem in The village of Amelia with Romac mvp door opener. This has happen the past 4 months and we been in our house since 2007; I had ASAP company look at this and the Technician told me this is on going and need to replace the opener. I got a price quote of $300.00 parts and labor for a Chamberlain controller with new key pad and 2 remotes.
Please reply back if any one else has a better fix.

Here's a link to the MVP manual. Page 11 shows how to reprogram the code on the remotes. Page 12 shows how to reprogram the overhead unit to accept the new code. In one home I had to reprogram the overhead unit, too. In another home I was able to just reprogram the remotes.
Write down the code before you program it so that you can reprogram other remotes with the same code. You need to be in the garage to do it. If you can't get it reprogrammed, just call the Romac. They will walk you through it. There are over 19,000 possible codes. Try not to just alternate "+" and "-" because I think that's what the installers do. Use all three buttons.
Another tip, after you finish, walk outside with your remote and verify that you cannot open any of your neighbors garages.

yep, happened to my neighbor. whenever I used my remote his garage door did the same. Romac reprogrammed it for him and solved the problem.

I never heard of MVP Ro-mac before. Why would they use them. They are very noisy. Someone must be getting something for the Villages to use them in every house when there are much better options out there. That is just my opinion.

Homes of various price ranges have different Garage Doors styles and motors and controls. Ro-Mac local location is on Rolling Acres just beyond The Lady Lake Elementary School. Drive back in and look for the Ro-Mac sign. Nothing fancy, but nice people to deal with. I'm sure they have a local phone number. If not, call the Ro-Mac store in Leesburg and ask for the number for The Villages location.
