WARNING: National Breast Cancer Research Center

The National Breast Cancer Research Center has just relaunched its Annual Villages Area Fund Drive.

This so-called charity spends virtually all its revenue on fund raising and administration and almost nothing on cancer research. It is rated 0 out of 5 stars (exceptionally poor) by Charity Navigator. Meanwhile, it diverts resources from legitimate cancer-fighting organizations.

I'm not commenting about this charity one way or the other but you cannot hold your Federal 501/C-3 cert if you spend ALL your money on expenses and promotion. There is a required percentage that MUST be met or you cannot qualify. Maybe there is an accountant here who can give out the correct percentages.

True, a charity cannot spend all its money on expenses and promotion, but this one comes close. In fine print, on the reverse side of its solicitation form, the National Breast Cancer Research Center admits that it spends only 2.66% of its revenue on cancer research. You don't need to consult an accountant to find this offensive. But if you want to donate, please do so.

Thank you for this information. I hate when charities exist primarily to put big bucks in the pockets of the people who run them.
