It is important for you to be able to talk frankly and openly with your cancer care team. They want to answer all of your questions, no matter how minor they might seem. Seriously, bring a tape recorder when you meet with the doctor.

Back when my wife was diagnosed we went to hear the test results and the bad news overwhelmed us so much that neither of us could remember what the doctor said after "the results were positive". She talked for about 15 minutes and we had to schedule a 2nd appointment to go over things again. The 2nd time we recorded so we could review it at home. Hearing that news is something I wish on nobody.

I worked for a surgeon back north, and he always told us to advise patients to write down questions, and there is no such thing as a stupid question. They've heard it all, they've seen it all, and they need you to understand it.
