Need a little help here. The problem just started today. I can receive emails but cannot send. Been on phone with my isp which is windstream, which I have when I am back to my primary home up North, and they are not able to help. I use Comcast while I am here in TV. They, windstream, told me to contact comcast and ask to be set up to use them for my outgoing mail and continue with windstream as my incoming isp. Does that make sense or is that possible?
I have never had this problem before and have been using my isp here as well as up North for many years.

Make the outgoing mail server (SMTP) smtp.comcast.net? That might fix your problem. When you go home you will have to change it to what it is now. Do a search of help for how to set up you email server if you do not know how to access it. I think the problem is on your computer not the ISP.

If that does not work you can create a new email account and use it for outgoing email while you are working on the problem.
I am not a computer expert but saw no one had answered so this is my 2 cents.

I had a similar problem before we moved here permanently. Up north we used Roadrunner and here we use Comcast. The problem we had was the outgoing server's port number was different and had to be changed, along with changing the SMTP server address, when going from one location to the other. The port # for Comcast I use is 587.

If you find where to change it, make sure to record the current number because you'll have to change it back north or change it back immediately if it didn't work.

Thank you for the responses. I am using Windows Mail for my email program. I too believe it is a computer glitch also. All worked as usual until Sunday AM. I had an update come in for Java, which was installed that morning. So, thinking maybe that was an issue, I deleted it. I also ran two different times, the System Restore function, picking different restore dates, and both times the restore action failed and did not finish due to a conflict. I would assume because of the two failures it must be internal and not external.
I am hesitant of using Comcast as my outgoing mail because if it does work, how would the recipient respond because I assume the incoming message would have Comcast and not Windstream as the address?
I will take all the suggestions here and try to find a way........

Hello to all my contributors. After doing one more system restore and getting that back as not able to complete, I contacted an outfit called boxaid. The rep did an remote hook-up and did the repair. After bouncing around and searching for awhile, he changed the port of my isp outgoing, from 110 to 537 and that was the ticket!! All is well and the emails are flowing again. He also deleted the previous restore points because they probably were corrupted and could not be used.

I had a similar problem last week, I use outlook and somehow the software on my computer got corrupted and all I could do was receive mail and not send. Had to reload outlook on my computer.

Remember the isp port numbers as when you go back you may need to change it back to 110. You may also want to write down some instructions of how to get to the screen where you change the port while it is still fresh in your mind.
