Home Warranty after the first year?

I just got a message on my phone from the Villages Warranty Dept. We built our house about 14 months ago and they want to come over and talk to us about "items that are warrantied for more than 1 year".

Has anybody had this visit? What is it about? I thought I was pretty much on my own after the first yr... Are they selling extended warranties or what?

thanks in advance.

I think I'd call Home Warranty and double-check that it's "really" them. I don't know of anyone whose had a call like this before.

Mee too.

That was actually my first thought also, but I checked the number they left and it matched what i had in my phone for TV Home Warranty - guess I'll find out when they get here if nobody else has had the visit...

sounds like scam is brewing.I got a call last week someone wanted to check the sealer on my granite counter top.
It wasn't from the person who sealed it.
I did it my self

WE had such a call and I was thinkin' , oh no they are trying to sell us something further. No. There are several things that continue on under warranty and they point that out to you and gave some general information and there is no extended warranty to buy at all. Just kind of an informative thing from the warranty department. They gave us a questionaire to fill out about our building experence with builders, contractors, landscapers, each had their separate catagory and we could rate them and mail it in.

Thanks !

Thanks Gracie!!

Good - I thought if it was just to sell me extended warranties, I might want to spend the 20 minutes doing something important, like sleeping...:)

I had a visit after the one year warranty was up. It is a legitimate call. I don't know how long they have been doing it. Takes about 20 minutes or so.

Yes, this is a legitimate followup visit---more like an evaluation of how they are doing.

The Villages Home Warranty Dept has made these calls and visits for years. They come by and explain to you the various items in your home that have extended warranties; for instance siding is guaranteed for ten years, as I recall.

Major Appliances

Also, just so you are aware, if you purchased your appliances through TV's, they have a two year warranty, not just one. We have had numerous problems with our Whirlpool refrigerator and our serviceman told me not to take the extended warranty they send for you to buy after the first year. Just had service out here again (the 7th time) and its been a year and 4 months. Warranty still good.

Never heard of this. I would check with the agent who sold you the home. could be some "evil doers"..good luck

mulligan 02-28-2013 06:43 AM

Definitely not "evil doers". I had the same call and the warranty person sat with me for about 1/2 hour, answered a few questions and went over a list of extended warranties. Not a word about buying anything except annual inspections for termite bond.
