Tricare prime ending in this area

Very important information for those using Tricare Prime. Tricare Prime will end on 30 September 2013. Everyone will be converted over to Tricare Standard and Plus. This will mean paying more out of pocket for care.

Costs going up

Golfingnut 03-04-2013 06:31 AM

It will mean an increase in fees of $3000.00 per year for my wife. I am on Tricare for life, so no immediate change that I can interpret.

alemorkam 03-04-2013 07:36 AM

From what i read it looks like Hospital Care costs are going way up.

TriCare standard requires an annual deductible, that is it. We never pay a co-pay after the deductible has been met, however we do have a supplemental policy. We have used it for years and don't understand why anyone would use prime when there are a lot more choices with standard.

In our case, having a supplemental is not an option due to medical history. Until perhaps 2014 God Willing and the projected care being made available to everybody stays with us. If the programmed care of 2014 is repealed, we may as well hang it up. Under current insurance way of picking and choosing clients based on their medical status or past, we are not welcome. Starting 1 October, we will fall into the 20% of bill going to us and that will only be covered after meeting the $3000.00 cap that if some get their way, will go up even higher. You should be grateful that you can buy supplemental.

I was on TCP until I shifted to TCFL due to age restriction. My wife is still on TCP until we move to TV full time. TCP worked well for us since we both work on base at Pearl Harbor and the base clinic was our PCP. Convient and never any co-pays.

We will be moving in June and both my husband and I are on Tri-Care Prime. I just got off the phone with Humana Military and she told me you may keep you TCP in the Villages but must sign a waiver stating you are willing to travel more than 30 miles to see your PCM. We are weighing all the options and will probably switch to Tri-Care standard.

Supplement

Anyone have a good Supplement for Tricare Standard. What are some choices?

stuckinparadise 03-06-2013 07:17 AM

MOAA is probable who we will be using.

alemorkam 03-08-2013 07:56 AM

I need a supplement for retired Enlisted people. Thanks

graciegirl 03-08-2013 07:59 AM

We have had decent insurance coverage all of our lives. Why are the costs going up so much lately?

Finallyfree 03-08-2013 12:15 PM

AARP has a good supplement, not military related but will work with TriCare. We use MOAA just because we have since we started with TriCare; I am not sure it is any better than AARP.

I suspect greed and lawyers.

Price is going up for retired military because they are starting to cut the benefits of the military to save money for the government.
