Buying bed sheets too complicated
 

First you have to decide the bed size which is easy. I have a full size bed. But then you should know the thread count....200, up to,1000? And what about the "pocket-size" of the fitted sheet. 16 inches? 18 inches? And what kind of cotton do you want? Egyptian cotton? Other?

I thought I had made a good choice at Walmart until I got home and realized my mattress depth was only 8 inches and the fitted sheet was for 18 inches. Then I go back to the store and find that they have a smaller one that is 16 inches. What happened to the 8 inch? Don't they make an 8 inch pocket size?

Have you ever visited a Home Goods store. I bought Eygptian cotton sheets that were wonderful for a reasonable price.

It is hard to find sheets for mattresses that are short any more. Mattresses are so thick it is hard to turn them.

The higher the thread count the softer and better the sheets. The low thread count that isn't cotton sometimes pills and feels rough to the skin.

Nice sheets are a luxury but you don't have to replace them often.

Look on JC Penneys web site and see if you can find sheets for your short mattress.

Thanks, 2BNTV. That must be a store up north. I'm not aware of any in Florida. But, come to think of it, Big Lots might be similar. I'll have to check it out.

You are telling me, we have too many choices here in the USA. Buying soap is a pain in the ........

Thanks, GG. Yes, I have seen the thick mattresses in model homes and it almost seems one would need a step ladder to get in bed.

I found an article about bed sheets and it says not to go to any extreme on thread count (not too low and not to high). So I figure about 500 would be okay for me.

My sheets, bought in Belk or Beals(?), never seem to wear out but I just want to try something softer.

If I can't find the right pocket size, I'm thinking I might call the seamstress in Wildwood and see if she can alter it. She has done some unusual jobs for me in the past and is very good.

Simple. You need to buy a pillow top mattress to fit your new sheets. :icon_wink:
