Something to be said about no basement
 

Up north and at 3am woke to running water somewhere. Yep the hot water heater went and basement in flooded... called the guy.... came at 5am fixed the problem.. and used his shop vac to help get rid of most of the water... and charged me $115 :MOJE_whot: now i get to call for a dumpster and clean out the stuff that i will no longer have to think about bringing to TV or not...

ARRRGGGGG!!! It could happen here too but that makes for a huge mess! As for no basements in T.V.---it definately helps to keep the clutter down! Keep us updated!

OH NO. That is NOT the way to throw things out, because they are ruined. I am so sorry this happened to such nice folks.

The homes in TV - at least the more recently built ones - have a catch pan installed that the hot water heater sits in. The drain line for the pan is plumbed to exit outside of the house. Thus if the water heater starts leaking, the flow is contained.

Our place in OH has a catch pan installed as well, even though the water heater's installed in the utility area of the basement. It would still keep the basement from getting flooded in the event of the hot water heater leaking. The drain is routed to a floor drain that empties into the sump pump pit.

Sorry that happned to you. But I do miss my basement,sigh.

All of our kids will thank us for no longer having a basement, and for now being built on a slab. SlabTown, Baby! No more clutter!!

However, just wondering how everyone feels walking on the cement floors long term? I've read that cement floors can actually damage the bones in your feet, legs, knees............you can google that.

Does anyone notice foot, leg or knee fatigue with the cement floors.....even if they have carpeting over them? Or tile?

Also, does anyone install "radiant heat" on top of their cement slabs prior to putting down wood floors????? To dispense with the "damp" coolness.
Just wondering. People do it up here.

I am happy to report that I lived with cement floors covered by carpet and have no issues because of it. :smiley:
