Microwave power supply problem

My microwave has no power. Have determined that the outlet is OK. Can this be repaired or do I need to buy a new microwave? I have a call in to an appliance repair service but am waiting on their call back.

Did you check the breaker for that circuit (in the electrical panel out in the garage)?

If everything checks out o.k., verify that power is really getting to and through the receptacle by unplugging the microwave and plugging in something you know is functional (table lamp, etc.).

If the "lamp test" works, then the problem is in the microwave itself.

Thanks Bill. The problem is in the microwave itself. The repair person called back and is coming. They said it is likely a blown fuse or sensor.

Jojo,

Did you recently replace one of the lightbulbs in the underneath section of the microwave? The reason I ask is that we had a handyman here who said that unless you replace the bulb with a certified/guaranteed bulb made by the microwave manufacturer, it can blow out all the programming in the microwave. Sometimes the microwave won't work at all, and other times it will keep beeping or turn on all by itself.

He said he has repaired many microwaves because people replaced the lightbulb with a less expensive bulb -- even though they look identical.

I'm just passing on information. I don't know anything about microwaves OR lightbulbs.

I hope your problem is easily resolved!
Judy

The problem was that a fuse blew the capacitor - a $150 fix. One month later it stopped heating. I replaced the GE microwave which was less than 5 years old.
