Hopefully you will be adding to that number, Cisco.:)

reminds me of the old joke:

A pedestrian gets knocked down every ten seconds in New York...

...and he's getting very annoyed about it

Cisco: Having a difficultly reading the photo in your post but no doubt many from our beloved State are "bailing out"---many have come to TV.

Well with the gas taxes and other taxes in ILL I would assume many are "bailing out" as quick as they can

The taxes are outrageous in Illinois. My old house up there had the taxes raised from $3500 a year to $7880 a year just in a 4 year time period!

Must go into the Governor's Lawyer Fund!

There is a move from rust belt states down south - but, of more interest is the overall aging of US population.

If we don't start holding the welcome mat out to foreigners who have needed skills and an entrepreneurial spirit we are in deep pooh.

The solution is easy....get a degree here - get a green card. Have a skill we need (engineers, health care professionals, software designers or folks that can handle advanced code) - get a green card. Even folks with less skills but are willing to put in 18 hours a day in hard work...we need you...step up.

And if you fall in these categories but due to ambition you came here in a less than prescribed fashion...if your skills and labor will make us stronger....you are welcome to stay.

A lot of Japan's problems are due to a closed/protected economy and low population growth relative to other Asian countries...we don't need to follow their lead.

The fact that TV's growth rate relative to the rest of the country is so high is good for our pride...but, we don't produce things here - we consume - this is not a good sign for our country.

Some good news about Illinois

No. 1: Connecticut
If you live in Illinois, we have some good news for you. You no longer live in the absolute-worst state in which to retire. The bad news? You live in the second-worst state, according to research released recently by TopRetirements.com. Connecticut now has the dubious honor of being the worst state in which to spend your golden years, according to John Brady, the president of TopRetirements.com -- who, by odd coincidence, lives in Connecticut. "The Nutmeg State does have considerable charm and some terrific places to live, if you can afford to live here," said Brady.

How about a 3% departure tax if you sell a home in New Jersey and move out of state. Now that is one I never heard of until Friday evening.

From what I understand, it is a withholding to ensure NJ doesn't have to track you down if you owe taxes:

In simple terms, no you are not paying a tax to leave NJ. NJ withholds money, similar to your state income tax withholding, if you move out of state. They are trying to make sure those moving out of state file their taxes on their NJ income at the end of the year. You will receive a refund if you don't own any additional tax. In short, no there is no "Exit" tax. It is withholding only.
