Be aware: Traffic Enforcement

Heard on the radio this morning (WVLG) that the police will be out today (and into the future?)....they will be ticketing folks (cars, carts and bicyclists) who do not stop for stop signs etc. So drive defensively, adhere the traffic laws and be safe!!

:police:

And here all along I thought the stop signs were only suggestions.

Thanks for posting the info!

Bill :)

Police on motorcycle had a golf cart pulled over yesterday on Morse. Watch your speed out there!

A comment made (again on the radio...and not from me) one of the men said, that folks here in The Villages apparently don't think they need to adhere to the traffic laws! He also said they observe, daily, folks blowing through the stop signs in front of their stations along with other infractions.

How about deputizing the announcers at the radio station so they could issue citations between songs?

All kidding aside, this is our third winter here in The Villages, and IMHO the worst driving I have ever seen!!

My husband was stopped here in Sanibel. The officer said he didn't stop at the corner of Anna Maria and Pinellas. But I was with him in the car, and I know he stopped. Luckily he only got a warning. We were very surprised when the police car turned the lights on behind us!

I have been here for six months and have seen the police on the roads in TV maybe 4 times. Guess they are doing a good job of hiding!

I've often wondered why radio stations decide to make such "advertisements"? Do the police officially tell them to put the word out, or is the radio station just passing along info that a listener out driving has observed & reported?

IMHO if you're not obeying the laws you deserve to get a ticket, and hopefully paying a stiff fine will convince you to change your driving habits & become a law-abiding driver. Telling bad drivers when & where they specifically need to be sure & obey the law serves no good purpose.

Also noticed, people do not use the signals on their cars or golf carts. Very dangerous.

Agreed. For what short amounts of time we're able to be in TV, we've noticed lots of people - cars and carts both - coasting through stop signs.

Be safe....

I, like everyone else that posts on this forum always come to a complete stop at a stop sign :ohdear:.

Next time you are hanging out watch how many folks actually come to a complete stop. Wheels completely stop rotating, not .02 MPH, zero rotation. Like I said, I always do that :1rotfl:.

Seems to me there are two types of folks that come to stop signs:
  1. They are going to go unless they see a reason to stop.
  2. They are going to fully stop unless there is a reason to go.

Even though neither may fully stop, there is a subtle difference between the two. The folks in category one scare the heck out of me, especially coming out of tunnels.

Drive like the other person is clueless and you should be fine. Be safe.

the radio warning is like those who flash their lights to let us know there are police ahead....really? Assisting others in the continued infractions of the law.

The driving and lack of obeying basic traffic laws is an epidemic in TV. I don't know whether folks over 60 don't know, are unable to see, unable to hear, too busy to be bothered or just don't care.....the percentage that do so is very, very high.

I am and have been anadvocate of the police having a special group that does nothing but enforce traffic violations in TV. Their pay would come from the more than adeqate revenues. They should be sufficient in number to be very noticeable and obvious. There should be a multiplier of the fine of some number, maybe double, for residents cited. There also should be a muliplier for repeat offenders.

Secondly there should be mandatory testing after age 69 (pick a number you like better!!!) to include a driving test. A pain in the butt? Of course. Will it make TV roads safer? Absolutely. We all know friends, family and neighbors who should not be behind the wheel.

In an area like TV with such a high concentration of us old(er) folk there needs to be more than just token enforcement from time to time.

TV needs to become known as a "speedtrap" location. We all know where they are when we travel. And we all drive the speed limit in those locations don't we? Yes we do.

Call your county sheriff and tell him you support more intense traffic regulation. I do, regularly.

Book 'em Danno!!!!

I am GUESSING that it is visiting time for a lot of teens who want to drive golf carts and some do it with care and some don't.
